I wrote to the author and expressed my thanks and he replied tonight and seemed quite chuffed at the sort of response that you gave me. If you have time, email him yourself as apparently it makes a nice change from the death threats... Can you believe...

Link below, nice one for reading it..

Re: An important article...

I totally agee with this guys views. I too am sick of todays' so called "groups" that are "packaged", record a cover tune and then become "BIG stars". Thats why I support (by going to thier shows and buying their CDs) any local band that really show some talent.

Multitrack Recording With Windows XP?

I was wondering if anyone has info or know where i can get a Multitrack recorder for my Computer?I also have Windows XP and cannot find free recording programs that run with XP. I just got the computer and am just getting started, if anyone knows where I can begin that would be a BIG BIG help!

Re: Multitrack Recording With Windows XP?

Is it a tracker or music compo software you're looking for? Cuz I'm looking for a similar thing as well? Too bad you lost the demo - check with your computer suppliers. PD fan, by any chance?

Cool Edit Pro Set Up

I copied my Cool Edit Pro onto another CD and put the orginal in a "safe place." I need to reload it onto to my system now that it has been upgraded, but it tells me that setup is not running correctly and that I need to original CD. Is there anyway I can get around this and find that ini/registry info without finding that disk? If there is, please let me know.

Help with Cubasis G0! 2.0

Hi all. Humbly asking your help with Cubasis Go! 2.0. I know -
I'm broke, what can I say? Anyway, Everytime I try to record
audio, I get "your recording was too short". My levels are fine,
I'm using Windows ME with a Terratec EWX 24/96. I've got
PLENTY of HW, my I/O is fine, and I have very few TSR's
running in the background. I've actually tried it with no TSR's,
but this didn't help. I'll play for as long as 30 sec. and get the same
thing. Anybody got a clue?

question??

Hi I was wondering how you would get discovered in becoming a profesionalsinger?I am a very good dancer and singer and I would love to be a profesional.

Agencies...

It's got to be either getting and agent and going for some stage rolls or similar. Voice rarely seems to matter in this world of materialism in the music industry. Machines can almost make anyone sound decent. It's in the songwriting and the performance that you will stand out from the norm... It's a very tough world out there that is truely sown up for the sole use of the music industry money makers...

Second Hand Powermacs

Does anyone know of a good second hand Mac dealers on the net. Need to upgrade my rig to handle all the heavy duty music making software around !

Cheers.

G.

Be careful what you buy...

I am a Mac user and know how many Beige box units there on for sale. I have nothing against the beige box Mac's although they were superseeded by Mac's with USB and Firewire. Don't let someone talk you into a Beige box where the price for it is in any way similar to a Blue and White G3 desktop or above... Those machines are fully supported in the sense of USB and Firewire devices and are faster than beige boxes.

Love them though I do, I wouldn't buy one now when you can get a used G4 for a decent price...

AT LEAST YOU CAN INSTALL A PCI SOUNDCARD... and other droll tale

Go to MacOrchard.com to get more info on old macs.

Also, in most major U.S. cities there are Macintosh user (social) groups. Go to used computer stores and get a copy of any free magazines or newspapers they have there. In the back, in the classified ads or anouncement sections you will find info about people who know tons more than us, maybe, and they do it all for fun.

Or, contact national directory assistance (via the telephone) to get the number for Apple, and ask them to direct you to information about User groups in you city.

Emagic Soundiver

Has anyone got a workaround for Emagic Soundiver (Mac)
when the install authorities on the installer floppy have run out ? I am desperate and Emagic are taking their time helping me out!

Thanks all.

I am recording original music to cd but no audio

Hey there,
I will appreciate your help a lot. I am in a jam.
My keyboard is Midi on to the PC via Power tracks Pro
I record the tracks save it to a file, convert the saved file to wav file drag it into audio area for cd recording. It records, I see the whole process before my eyes, it congratulates me for creatingit successfully, but in playback mode no audio is heard.
What could be the problem?
Is it that I need a new wav file imported or downloaded and what kind do I need to download?
Where is the best site to download it from?
I need all these info if you have it.

I tried recording it in midi format.....no audio
then I tried audio format without the midi....no audio
after playback. I have already wasted a recordable cd for testing. That was dumb, I know.
Please help, I am desperate to hear my own original song on CD
Thanks a million.
Wally.

Re: I am recording original music to cd but no audio

Could be all sorts of things. I would check the file (Wave) before you burn it to see if there is sound there at all. If the wave works well right up to the point of recording it to a CD then there could be an issue with the CD itself. It's too hard to tell without actually being there to observe the process. Check the wave works at each stage of the recording and burning process as it may suggest where things are going wrong...

Help!: What software do I need to convert MP3 files to Audio fi

Can anyone give me some advice as to what software is best for my purpose? I am trying to drag my MP3s from iTunes into MACAST Converter in order to convert them to AIFF so that I can burn a CD. It won't accept them when I drag from iTunes into MACAST. Do I need different software? Please respond via Email: lyra_s@hotmail.com.
Thanks.

There is no point...

Lyra,

There is no point in converting the Mp3's to Aiff's as the information that you have lost in converting them into Mp3's in the first place is gone forever and wont be improved in any way by converting them back to Aiff's. If I were you, I would just make a playlist of them in iTunes and then click the burn disk button from there.

If you need to convert the Mp3's for other reasons though, you should locate the actual Mp3's themselves as the list you see in the iTunes window is essentially a link to the file on your HD. Highlight the file in the iTunes window and then press 'Option R" and it will show the original file. You can convert it with MacCast from their..

I am using sound forge to transfer music from my records to the my computer. On some records I get alot of sparks in the recording. Can sound forge filter out or remove these sparks? I can zoom in on the wave and pencil out each spark but not as a whole recording.

Sibelius vs. Finale

I'd like some people who have actually played with both to respond as I would like to but one of these programs for my son for his birthday tomorrow. What is your experience?

both too expensive?

i've had a look at both but wouldn't say either is worth that kind of money. Have a look at the hugely cheaper alternatives \esp\ as it's a present and may not be your sons preference.

Vocal recognition

Is there a voice recognition software that would allow me to listen to a cd and would print out the lyrics. I'm trying to copyright words and music for some compositions and trying to pick out and write down the lyrics is providing one big headache! If someone has a solution I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Re: Vocal recognition

I seriously doubt that any company has advanced far enough to offer a software apps for this purpose. There maybe something but from a technical point of view, there is little chance with the vocal being musically embeded into the rest of the track.

It's easy for humans to isolate instruments from within a stereo mix but to ask a computer to work out what one of the overlaying bandwidths that that instrument is occupying was expressing in the english language a little too much to ask.

Looking for specific sample cutter

I'm looking for cheap or free software that would allow me to cut "tracks" from music. I want to use a guitar riff from a song but I cant find software resonably priced software that would alow me to do so. Most software I've found just cuts a part out of the song with all the other instrumentals intact. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Re: Looking for specific sample cutter

It's the age old question that sadly has the same answer. You can't really pick out a single instrument from a stereo mix. A guitar's frequencies are also occupied by almost every other instrument there is and to remove one and not the other is a little unlikely under these limitiations.

Think making a cake and then trying to subtract all those ingredients after tha cake is made and you can see how trickier subject this is...

Help! - The ultimate digital conversion challenge

Hi!

I got a real challenge here.

I have 5-10k audiocassettes. I need to convert them to a digital format.

The usual way of doing it is running a line-in to my computer and playing each tape. Now that would take 5-10k hours. Even with 3 computers running simultaneously, well it's just a bit too long.

I need a shortcut to save me thousands of hours.

You know those machines that dub tapes in minutes? Something like that onto the computer would be great. Only problem, as far as I know it doesn't exist.

The recordings on the tapes are voice, not music, so we don't really have a problem with the need for hi stereo quality.

Any suggestions? Would really appreciate it.

Thank You

Re: Help! - The ultimate digital conversion challenge

I think that is a momentous task to be taken on. You can run compact cassettes at two or four times (under certain circumstances) although running them up to a speed that is going to take a decent chunk out of that 10,000 hours of material is unlikely.

Taking the tape out of that cassettes and loading them into a quarter inch machine maybe possible but then how could you convert them quickly enough to data. Apart from the amount of time it would take to take the cassettes apart and splice them together would more than likely cost more time anyway.

If I were you, I would contact a duplication house and enquire about your problem with the view of getting a quote for the job in hand. Even if it was as expensive as I suspect it will be, at least you may found out if it's possible at all, and if so... how...

HOW TO COMMIT 5-10k HOURS WORTH OF COPYRIGHT THEFT.

Hello, my friend. If I were you, I'd contact the Library of Congress in the United States and ask them how THEY do it, since they have been constantly recieving recorded media for U.S. Copyright law registration. If they can't provide any answers, contact the National Security Agency or the FBI. Ask for their records departments.
If those folks scare you as much as they intrigue me, contact the Audio Engineering Society (AES). Probably someone in AES from around the world could help you if they can manage to stop trying to impress you
with overblown mathematical equations and exaggerated patents.

I'd be willing to bet that some arrogantly brilliant nordic or european type could help you if you can set your web browser for more languages than english. Japan, Germany, Sweden, France, Iceland, and any culturally similar countries harbor people of that ilk.

I'm totally digressing. Contact the Library of Congress though.

It sound's like you're trying to do something very illegal. Like maybe you are a record label or distributer or retailer or other unmentionable Exploiter(!) who has tons of published cassettes for cheap or free (maybe DEMOS), and you'd like to digitize them so you can exploit people digitally as fast as you can devour them and rape and pillage the creative free world. (pardon me if i'm mistaken, of course).

If so, you
could contact somebody in Korea or some other country that doesn't participate in International Copyright Law. But that would be very mean of you.

Re: HOW TO COMMIT 5-10k HOURS WORTH OF COPYRIGHT THEFT.

Sorry if I will dissapoint you, but no the tapes are not copyrighted.

I am working for an organization that owns these tapes of lectures, classes etc.

For archival and technological purposes we wish to convert them.

Thanks for trying to help though.

lyrics

Does anyone know of a site where I can download lyrics to song?

Re: lyrics

Have you tried searching for it using Yahoo or similar?
Whenever I want to find lyrics, that's the way I find them.

How can I break one large wmv file into many?

Hi ,
I have a 14Gb WMV file that needs to be broken down into 700Meg each or less. Is there any tool or workaround? I can also accept converting the MWV to MPEG or AVI and then break it down.
Thanks,
Noel.
