Cubase VST or Orion VST?

help us guys, which is better or is there a better bit of kit that doesn't use midi?

get down with the demos + YOU decide!

Neither is better quite honestly. If u like Orion + find it quicker + easier to use then the tracks u get from it will be better (as in more inspired) + you'll more fun along the way too. As for sound quality that depends on the samples, vst instruments + vst FX you use - NOT the host! cubase is big on audio do you need that? Do u need audio recording cause orion doesn't do it. u can record in an audio editor though + import that to orion v easily though as many do. If u doing electronic music u looking in the wrong place - u need fruityloops!

Re: get down with the demos + YOU decide!

okay ill tell you exactly what i want to do. The reason why i dont download both demoes now is cuz i don`t have access to a computer with a good enough soundcard and software right now. Got one at home, mate. I want to like put together proper dance music without using midi - like from scratch, and very professionally sounding stuff too cheers mate

sorry you'll be wanting this cos

Fruityloops is the best most tweakable and easy/quick to use app around for electronic music. arguablly this make it the most powerful too. by no midi you mean all internal on the pc? that's the future + present anyway. with fruity you have samplers galore, VST/DXi instruments, and VST FX. Orion more or less does the same but you really need to check out these two and see which one u feel most comfortable with. Cubase is fine but has a large learning curve, is expensive and you'll need to get some decent VSTi's and FX ontop of that. The piano roll is a pain to work in too esp compared to fruityies piano rool + step sequencer. Don't touch Reason unless you really like it and can afford a rewire host like cubase to apply decent VST fx to each channels. Only cubase from these four will record for you. If you want to record vocal lines + use them in orion /fruity you would do that in an audio app like cool edit or a cheap sequencer like cubasis. then you'd import to a sampler channel alongside the music. hope this is clear but again there is no right answer to your question there is no better app - you will get the best music out of the most comfortable and workable environment to yourself. Pros use different equipment not all the same gear. quality samples and vst fx + instruments is what matters.

You'll want fruityloops maon

download mp3 or wave to diskettes

I need to find a way to download music from .wav format or mp3 format onto diskette. My keyboard has a floppy disk wherein I was hoping to download songs so that I can play and even add addional tracks. I got the songs created in .wav format. I even got it converted to mp3 so it would be compressed. How do I get this onto a diskette and read off of it?

mp3 to keyborad diskette?? don't think so

i don't think it's possible. The keyboard will use it's own special format which is just information. You can't translate audio info to this format atall i wouldn't think. maybe u could translate midi tracks to your keyboard format though.

Re: mp3 to keyborad diskette?? don't think so

What is the best way to import karaoke music onto a yamaha Key Board? I have the music on CD.

Re: mp3 to keyborad diskette?? don't think so

you can't get the info yer keyboard needs from an audio CD i don't think! You will need to buy ready made disketes with the correct info to play specific songs on your keyboard. Maybe u can download these files from the net? If you know the file format of your keyboard you should do a search on google.com and see what comes up. Have u tried the keyboard makers web site/message board?

turn any song into a ringtone for Nokia composer...?

There's a few songs that i would love to have as my customized ringtones on my nokia 3390 cell phone but on the internet all i'm able to find is the songs in midi format or already converted. What could i use to rip the music notes out of a song so that i can compose the tune on my phone myself? also, how do i turn a .txt file into a midi file and vice versa? Please respond to suspect420@hotmail.com. thank you...

mics and line inputs

I need to know what type of soundcard I need in order
to record microphones and guitar line ins. I have a
FX-3D record(100), yet no sound is going into my n-Track
studio. If anyone knows how to fix this please reply
Thanx

Re: mics and line inputs

don't know the card but sounds like a settings problem. have a good look at the cards options + ensure line in/mic in is selected + vol is up. You should see the in port no? The card shouild be full duplex for play/rec simultaneously (most are) and support ASIO drivers if poss (does N-trak??) or DirextX drivers at the least. if no no get yerself a soundblaster Live! 1024 - $70/

wdm drivers for soundblaster live platinum

I just got myself sonar xl and it is suggested that WDM drivers could help with the latency problems that clearly can be noticed when using the dxi synths. My OS is Windows ME and my soundcard is a Soundblaster live platinum. Where can I find WDM drivers for my soundcard? is the instalation process Complexe? So, I am asking if someone can help me by telling me what i should do and which wdm driver is best to install .

help

i have just recently had a version of Cakewalk put on my computer.
ib have got a basic setup which consists of an Alesis QS8 synthesizer/master controller and a few other programs put in including:-
1: vaz modular
2: cubase Vst
3: logic audio platinum
and wave lab, all ofb these programs allow play back from the Alesis itself but why do i have no Alesis play back with the Cakewalk program .
i really do need your help as i am wanting to use this this program to help me do digital and analogue recordins and multi track as and when needed during my GCSE,s at soar valley college in leicester.

midi - slave/master.

hey, i'm in southampton,

with midi u usually have a slave + master set up. sounds like u want to use Cake as the master and use a midi track on it to play a sound on keyboard - the slave? u just need to set it up right in cakewalk options i'd say. u will need to click something to allow midi to be sent from track to keyboard everytime u have finished using the keyboard as controller (i think). look for a midi 'thru option' or something.

Royalty fee B.S. & recording software

What recording programs don't carry a royalty fee for use of their product? I've been using Digital Orchestrator plus. I like the program so far but dont know if theres a fee for use. Are there any recamendations for other eqip? Please let me know.
Thanks

Re: Royalty fee B.S. & recording software

Do you mean freeware software? I don't believe there is software that requires you pay royalties for using the software to write music. I haven't seen any. But there is a lot of software that you have to pay for. And that's fair enough, really.
You might find more info on the program here.

Fruity Loops 3.3 with Yamaha PSR 540

I was wondering if anyone could explain to me how to sync my Yamaha PSR-540 with Fruity Loops. The “Record To Step Sequencer” selection in the MIDI options doesn’t seem to be working for me. I’d appreciate any help. Thanks.

Re: Fruity Loops 3.3 with Yamaha PSR 540

r u getting midi in signal? have u checked recieve midi or whatever it says under Options? Try that first fella - try playinmg a notes via keyboard tio check midi is working before getting into recording.

Re: Fruity Loops 3.3 with Yamaha PSR 540

Yea, the notes are being played, they just aren't being recorded to the step sequencer or piano roll.

Stupidity

Why do you ask these stupid Questions? Figure it OUT for youselves.

Re: Stupidity

Ask yourself why *you* asked a stupid question ;)

Re: Stupidity

Many of the questions posted here are from users new to the computer music scene who are just looking for a little guidance. Yes, some queries become tedious but try to have a little patience with beginners. On the other hand, if you see anyone posting crack requests - flame them big time.

CD+G recording

I have attempted numerous times to try and record CD+G discs(karaoke discs), but I have been completely unsuccessful. I can get the music, just not the lyrics. If there is anyone on this earth that can maybe give me some advice on how to reproduce the lyrics I would greatly appreciate it!!!

Re: CD+G recording

you need to have software and hardware that can read/write to the subcode of the cd.
All Yamaha drves are supposed to do it
some plextor and a few others. I have a new TDK that is supposed to be able to do it but I'm having some problems with that too. The software that I have used before that can do it is CDRWIN and padus diskjuggler. most other pacages can't do it.

Good luck!

Pro Tools rocks. Buy a Mac. P.C's are not up to par, unless you plan to have it crash every two seconds.

HELP (F1)

What software converts double-sided, high-density 3.5" diskette to doudle-sided, double-density 3.5" diskette. I'm using it for my keyboard?

Re: HELP (F1)

You don't need any. Just go ahead and format it. If you do it on a PC, you'll
find there is an option to do this.

Andy

Re: HELP (F1)

hey, thanks andy, but i can't format it. i bought a new 2HD diskette and try to format it to size 720kb, to become 2DD. But the pc says: "windows could not format this disk, either the capacity is not valid for this disk or damaged."

Did I follow you correctly or I did a different thing?

Re: HELP (F1)

Sounds like the disk is damaged, or your Windows installation
is corrupt. The only place I know that sells DS/DD pre-formatted
disks is Inmac.

I WANNA REMOVE THE VOCAL FROM A SONG WITH SAMPLITUDE!!! CAN ANYO

I don't know what i need to to remove the voices from a song, please, if you know how, tell me.
Thanks,
Rafael

Re: I WANNA REMOVE THE VOCAL FROM A SONG WITH SAMPLITUDE!!! CAN

This question is asked regularly so a quick search would give you the answer. I don't think it can be done with Samplitude. But then I haven't tried. You can do it with Sound Forge. Click the link.

missing line-in socket

I have an HP omnibook laptop but it has no line-in socket there's just a mike socket and headphone socket.

As I like to record my band with the laptop (thru a mixer) I need a line-in, the mike socket won't do since it distorts. Anybody know how to adapt the mike line-in or is there another solution(USB or other port?)

Thanks

USB...

You can buy USB audio interfaces which would suit you down to the ground I suspect. Tascam make a mixing desk that has a USB interface. There are others like Emagics new USB interface or Roland UA-30.

ohm/impedence rating differential

if the mic in distorts TURN THE SIGNAL DOWN!!!
i think the only difference between line/mic in is the impedence or is it ohm value? you can get a converter no doubt if u feel the need. mic in is more semsitive turn down it's rec level to very min and keep input at good level.
