Apple Mac's have a speach option. It can be used in almost any text based application.

You need to use a phono pre amp bettween the turntable and the computer

Jammer is another nice program for accompaniment. It will make it's own chord progressions, and has may styles to choose from, but it can't hear what you are singing. If you want you can change every last detail of the song, or let it do almost all the work. I have found it to be a great program for musicians with writers block.

Two reasons. First, you can't close a CD-RW (i.e. you can't put an index on it). Therefore, the
CD player has no guide as to where each track starts and finishes. Secondly, the laser in a lot
of CD players isn't capable of reading a CD-RW, since the pits aren't as reflective as those on
a proper CD. Unfortunately, there isn't any way around this (hence the reason behind CD players
that ARE CD-RW compatible). The only alternative is to use CD-Rs, which most players can use.

don't know. have u got a compressor in the chain? Cubase compressor adds a huge latency when used as insert for a reason synth.

Common problem i'm afraid. I have a video of a few much admired musicians I worked with in London a month ago which I shot for my own benefit. Luckily I managed to get the sound engineer to record the gig on to a MD and I am waiting for him to send it to me so I can edit it onto the gig itself...

In the interim, I have tried to get rid of that ambience and only partially succeeded by compressing the living daylights out of it.

The reality is, the echo is part of the overall sound and the mic on the camcorder has recorded it and the room sound. Picking out certain bandwidths from one sound source without subtracting from the bandwidths you want to keep is not possible at the moment. (If it is, someone is keeping it very quiet..!).

Compress it and see if it works for you. If the work is vocal (talking only) then you could try boosting frequencies around the 400-700hz range as this is a prominent vocal bandwidth for that close sort of sound. If it's a whole band then... sigh...
