Re: A rookie needs advice

Bob,

I'm no expert myself but I have played with this stuff some, and most if not all of the new video editing programs will do exactly what you are describing. I know that Pinnacle's products allow you to drag and drop clips or stills right into your project, and it's really very easy, Pinnacle makes Studio DV and others.

Good luck

Re: A rookie needs advice

If you have a Mac, then you more than likely already have the software (iMovie) that comes free with all Mac's in the last couple of years.

Other than that, I would assume this sort of thing is possible with any basic DV or Video editing program.

Good Luck

SteveR

p.s. I have been doing some of this sort of thing for a month or so as I bought a DV cam for the Mac. I don't know much, but a little so feel free to email me with any question.

MIDI problems with Cakewalk Music Creator 2002

Hi, maybe someone can help me:
I just installed Music Creator on a very able system (1.3 GHZ with 264mb ram and ) using WIN XP

I attached my Yamaha PSR 270 to the joystick port with the proper in-out plugs in back of the instrument, and hoped to be able to record some MIDI. The input, unfortunately, translates as a single jumble of notes (like a staccato "chord") or sometimes misses most of the notes entirely, recording maybe 3 out of 15. Never have I been able to get it to record exactly what I am playing. I am testing this with simple, single notes, e.i. Mary Had a Little Lamb type stuff just to see if it works, and it doesn't. (btw, playback of the tutorial songs comes out just fine)

Cable connections are tight, everything seems to be in order. Cakewalk tech support told me to contact the sound card manufacturer and download an updated audio driver, as mine might be outdated or corrupt. Even though I doubted this, I did it anyway, and still no change.

Any ideas? I sure would appreciate your help

Thanks

Re: MIDI problems with Cakewalk Music Creator 2002

I am having the same problem with my 270. Has anyone been able to solve this problem?

Re: MIDI problems with Cakewalk Music Creator 2002

Yeah, that's a bit of a sticky wicket - My boys Doug Collins, John Snodgrass, Tom Tobin, Fred Tokars, Jeff Rosinek, and Tony Marshall would likely inject it with Delta Antigen Hepatitis and feed it a double dose of feces. In about 4 mos., it would develop jaundice and just die ignominiously while my boys would regale with delight!!! They would dance with glee knowing that they have a back-up band willing to go to bat for them if they ever got into any trouble over any of it. Sound at all familiar Ram? ... you just keep that "Duetchland Uberalis" beat hummin' like an Opel. JW.

Hi Logical Guy
Sorry you have decided to take a break. I have been looking for days on the web for a site that will explain in detail how to convert MIDI files so that I may burn them on to a CD. Please have mercy on this grandmother, a web site for this info or if can explain it to me I will be forever grateful. From reading your postings to other people in the need to know without a doubt you have forgotten more than I will ever know in the computer field. Any help you can give me would be wonderful.
Thanks for your time.

Re: So long, and thanks for all the fish.

No one is going to bother to help you if all you want is a personal reply via email. You really have no understanding of what discussion forums are about. If everyone wanted personal replies via email and got them, we'd have a forum full of requests - with no answers!

Leaving Email addresses is not good enough.

I doubt that many people will bother to come reply to your email.

You are already on the forum and therefore expected (as in any forum) to be there to get the replies.

Apart from anything, people benefit from reading each others answers so come back for them wont you..

Hi Steve
Can you think of a web site or explain to me how to Convert MIDI files so that I may copy them to a CD? Any help would be WONDERFUL!
Thanks for you time

Midi files

There is no definitive way. The idea is to get the midi file to play a synthesizer and then record the audio output from that. The file can then be burnt to a CD.

If you have an outboard GM compatible synth and a midi interface, the process should be quite straight forward. You soundcard probably has a Gm soundset of it's own which could be recorded but I must confess to never having to go that route. The chances are you could load up a multitrack recording package and import the midi file. You could then assign each track to it's own instrument.

That's the idea anyway. Get some more tips after providing details of the equipment you have.

mp3 software

help
i need a program that will allow me to slow down mp3s to half speed without losing pitch so i can figure out and learn to play fast guitar passages
any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: mp3 software

Time stretching is what you need. Most audio editors can do this or a stand alone program like the Amazing Slowdowner

SteveR

Re: Acid PRO

Acid PRO is another software that allows you to slow down or speed up songs. The interface is very easy to use and the time control is a breeze.

Sure!
use a turn table, a mixer, and a soundcard with line in
not just 3 plugs, but 4
Use win 98
use musicmatch 6.1
this will enable you to record the vinyl to mp3
from there there are mp3 editors in many places.
Cheers

PLZ help me out

Re: protools plugins

I once had this problem myself when I tried to find a plugin that allows the listener to smell. My song was "USO." This is still one of my favorite songs that I have written. The solution is really quite simple: Go to www.smellysoftware.com and I found it.

Sampled 2.0

I e-mailed this same post to another e-mail address on this site by accident (it was wrong place to post a message; so that's why I'm here). Anyway:

1. I like to use Sampled 2.0 as an audio-editor, I like to use it the most because it is so much more accurate than any other audio-editor I can find (you can read the wavs down to the smallest, and you can select the delta; it is so great). There is only one problem. When I edit, and save; it only saves one channel and then the edits have one channel (left or right; whatever I selected) coming out of both speakers. The only way to get (that I can find) both channels onto my mix is to paste one over the other; but that would still leave the same thing coming out of both speakers. How do I make it so that left channel comes out of the left speaker, and the right channel comes out of the right speaker. If you've used this editor, you'd know what I'm talking about (so I assume you know what I'm talking about).

2. What are the best CD-Rs? Somebody told me that Sony CD-Rs are the best. Is that true? Are all CD-Rs the same quality?

3. Can you purchase CD-Rs with silver on the bottom (like real CDs), instead of blue/green?

4. I know how to eliminate vocals from the song (invert the left channel, and paste it onto the right channel). My question is; does professional clean-edits use this technique? Is there anyway to elimate the music, but keep the vocals there (I've tried the opposite; invert right, paste on left; but it's still does the same thing).

Well, I hope you can answer my questions. Thank you very much, and have a nice day.

Sincerely,

Geeky Randy

Re: Mini disc

No software with the player? I would head over to their site and see what is on offer in the download area. If it's available it should be there, and free...

I am not familiar with USB connections on MD players although I suspect it's for simple audio transfer to and from a computer. Can't imagine why else it would be there.

Good luck
