If your PC is capable of playing DVDs, then Total Recorder works fine. It records ANYTHING fed into your soundcard. I've already recorded parts of DVD soundtracks with it and the quality is superb.

Apologies about how many times my original message is listed - my internet kept playing up!

You say Total Recorder.

That isn't the sound recorder that comes with windows is it? Because quite frankly that is pony. I say soundbites but it's more like a 2-3 minute soundbite.

If this is a different software, where can I obtain it? Is it Freeware? If not what is similar that is freeware, where I can use it without having the problems I mentioned before?

No, I was referring to Total Recorder from High Criteria (I think you've confused it with Sound Recorder which is included with Windows). However, this isn't free.

Hi Lister.

Cheers for telling me about Soundcapture. Ive downloaded it and will give it a go tonight.

I think I have a different idea of how to record from DVD on this one, but just in case, when you recorded from a DVD you didn't do it the 'rookie' way that I did it did you? That way being plugging a twin 3.5mm jack cable from the speaker port to the line-in port, thus whatever I hear gets recorded via the line-in port.

How did you get such high quality recording, because when you do it the 'rookie' way the noise and hiss is awful.

The only time I've used the line in on my soundcard is to record a CD from a standalone CD player. I had no problem at all with hiss or anything.

What soundcard do you have, and have you tried recording anything else through the line in?

I use Windac to rip from the cd. This saves the songs in .wav format. There are lots of different CD rippers out there which do this. Once in this format I use Cannamp to convert to MP3. Both should be available on www.download.com

There is also some stuff at http://www.mp3-to-wav.com/

Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a 'free' program available.

Mac generally write PC/MAC hybrid disks to overcome the fact that MS don't accept there are other formats other than their own.

I don't know if this has always been the case with Mac burning applications but it should be buy now. What is on the disk? I know you can't read it but what type of burn is it? Audio? Data?

I cant load asio driver

i am not able to load asio fullduplex driver, i had on but i uninstallled cubase along with the drivers by mistake, and now not even by installing cubase can i get the driver loaded, when press on the setup for this asiofulduplexdriver i get the message : asio driver can not be loaded! whats wrong? I have pc pent3 600hz with creative liveplatinum sound card

look, i have the exact same problem, im talking identical, uninstalled cubase on a Sblaster Plat live card and now the ASIO etc cant load, and cant be set up in the control anels or in cubase audio preferances.

I am desperate to find a cure as I have many $1000's i am about to lose in the next 2 days if i cant erectify this annoying and head ache of a problem please email me if you ended up working it out djkcb@optusnet.com.au

ASIO drivers are usually placed in a folder within an Audio applications main folder name ASIO Drivers... Do you have a folder called ASIO Drivers this in the Cubase folder? If so, check inside the folder and see what is there. If it's gone, you will have to download the file again..

wow thats amazing i have the same prblem 2 i put my soundcard in another computer when i put it back in my computer cubasis tells me it cannot open the asio driver and i can't click the preferences button.

does anyone know wat to do?????????

Sorry dude. I don't know then. Maybe you should remove and reseat the soundcard although it's probably some sort of software error. Mac user so I don't know my way in the depths of windows any more..

Sir , I have recorded audio cassettes in wav files by using jetaudio software. Each recorded files shows extension as .wav One file is of 18 to 20 MB ( about 46 minutes of recording ) . I want to record maxi,u, of such files in the CD . Can I zip these files and copy to CD and later on can be unzipped. OR . is there any software to convert these huge files to small data storage files ??

It sounds like you already lowered your sample rate and bit depth considerably (20MB should be 2 minutes at CD quality)
Convert them into MP3 at a 96kbit/sec rate. Use CDEX. It's the best free ware.

Hello,
I followed your advice to ali baseer.
I used CDex to compress some file. Big disappointment. CDex took quite some time working on few files. When I went to the folder it created, there was nothing compressed about it.

Also do you know of any way to create a compressed data CD that can be listened to on any CD player?

For my daughter's Yamaha keyboard there is a Yamaha
midi DIN to USB adapter & cables. I humbly suggest that your web searches ought to include "Casio" or look @ the Casio website(s). I hope that helps?
I'm only trawling for 5 pin male DIN cables to a
capable Soundblaster Audigy card... but spotted your plea for help.Maybe the Yamaha UX16 USB/midi interface would work ? Look to Casio ?
