sample rates

I have been recording using Cool Edit Pro and Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. Everything has been recorded at 44.1mhz. As I said the music is fine. The problem occurs when I try to put the vocals in. I record at 44.1mhz and it seems to work alright until I save it- then everything goes haywire from that point. The music stays the same but the vocal suddenly goes to triple time and sounds like a chipmunk. I run my mics through a 24 track Behringer mixer.

As I said this is a problem that no one seems to be able to help me with. I have conatcted both the soundcard and software people and they each blame the other. I have change soundcards several times and these seem to work on other computers but generate the same problem on mine. The sound card is the Sound Blaster Live.

I have a feeling the problem is themixer but as I say no one seems to be able to help me.

Re: sample rates

haven't we done this already? I am sure that we got someway into a conversation about this and it was lost in the post.

If you record anything to a digital medium that is a clean signal then the only speeding up and slowing down is other user imposed with a harmonizer or is subject to some sort of sample rate conversion in the computer application.. I would get the offending audio and check it's sample rate. Make sure that it's the same as the rest of the audio, if not... change it's sample rate with a sample rate convertor. I'm sure there is one in Cool Edit..

I've already done all that. I wouldn't be posting if it was something as simple as that. I have tried everything and nothing works.

Re: sample rates

Ron

The information you have given is simply not enough to be going on.

You say you are using Cool Edit pro and Cakewalk to record music and vocals. Are you doing all the recording in Cakewalk or Cool edit?

If you are recording the music and the vocals through the same recording chain as each other then there is no way they should be different. I can only assume that you are recording music in one and then trying to dub vocals in the other... I can't see why anyone would want to do that.

You say

"he problem occurs when I try to put the vocals in. I record at 44.1mhz and it seems to work alright until I save it- then everything goes haywire from that point"

No disrespect, I am trying to help you here but, that doesn't explain anything to anyone.. Your putting the vocals into what? where is the music, Cool Edit or Cakewalk? Save what, the song or the vocals? What goes haywire? the vocal track or the whole song?

If you are using a standard analogue mixer, there is no way it can speed up or slow down anything without effects. If it's digital and you are using a digital output then, there is a chance. If your using an effect there is a chance.

It sounds to me like there is a bad sample rate conversion going on there. You are using two complicated pieces of software with an average soundcard.. problems arise and you need to minimise your system. Have you ever tried just recording the music and vocals with Cakewalk? If you did, and routed everything through an Analogue mixer, then there is no way that some of the tracks are going to be recorded at different sample rates to the others unless you have some failing software drivers for the mediocre sound card you use or you are fiddling with things you shouldn't with the sound card
drivers.

Keep in touch..

Why not just ask the questions here? You'll probably get a faster response (and more of them).

Thank you for your replys to me.
And here is a question that I have someone might be able to help me with, Iwould be more then greatful!...
Well I talked to someone that said that making music with acid pro, as to do with Loops, and samples and putting them together, is the correct?
if that is correct, I wanted to see if anyone knew how
to make the music sound smoother, Not like its jumping, from one song, to the next, haha.. :) i can't seem to get the songs to come together, they sound like their are "jumping" from one song, right to the next one...
Please help.
Thanks so much..
Shelly.

Re: how to get your music from cassette on to your computer

There might be no harm in also cleaning your cassette deck to minimise the muffled sound of a dirty tape drive.
But obviously let it dry before beginning the recording...

MP3 recording

I understand there is a way to record hundred of MP3's into a CD-R. Would you sent me instructions on how to do so?

Re: MP3 recording

Why send you anything when you are right here...!

All you need is a CD burning application that allows you to burn Mp3 playable CD's. I can do it with Roxio toast or iTunes on the Mac. I'm sure other CD burning applications can do the same..

:ede- thanks for the info i picked this version vocoder1.2-x86-win32 i got i loaded but it ask's me for a modulator file what is this and where do i find this file thanks

Re: i need a vocoder where can i get one

For a vocoder to work, you will probably need to load 2 files....

The Carrier - the Vocal sample you want vocoded
The Modulator - the Synth sound/sample you want the vocals to be mixed with

I might have them the wrong way around cause it's been a while since I've used one.

cubasis - audio tracks do not syncronise

I have cubasis vst . The audio tracks do not syncronise , they need manipulating after recording . The audio to midi sync is generally fine . I have a 500mgz comp , lots of ram and a decent soundcard ( sound blaster 5.1 ) so it should work properly . Have tried all the obvious things I can think of . This is very frustrating even the pro`s don`t know why this is occuring ------- do you have any ideas ?

Record Audio from a DVD

I am looking for software that will inable me to record audio off of a DVD. This would be on a Mac.

Thanks

Re: Record Audio from a DVD

I've come across a few DVD ripping proceedures for the Mac.

http://www.dawnload.net/alternative_platforms/mac_software/mac_dvd_ripping_tutorial.cfm

I got that from a simple Google search on DVD ripping Mac.

Try versionstracker.com as they have many decent Mac upgrades as well as oodles of software. There are ways to do it in OS9 and previous up to OSX. It'll take some reading I suspect.

ISO very basic software

Hey all. I like to burn my own cds for personal listening and I am looking for some software that will enable me to fade the songs into each other (crossfading?). Sounds simple, but all I am finding is pretty advanced mixing software. I am obviously a novice here(!), and y'all are probably laughing, but anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: ISO very basic software

If you use iTunes 3 on a Mac, I think it can burn it's cross fading to Cd although I would have to confirm that.

The best software for the job that I have personally used is Roxio's JAM...

soundcard installation

How to install sound card from internet?

making bass

I currently use fruity loops 3.5 I have messed around using different sounds and in the piano roll. But none of the sounds sound like deep bass. They sound like guitar bass. I'm trying to make drum n bass but I was wondering how to get deep bass like in rap music. The sounds they have in fruity loops are just kind of light. i need like some power behind the bass

Thanks.

Re: making bass

You could also try switching to Cakewalk to compose and use soundfonts for bass and drum - there are some excellent soundfont files

Re: making bass

Most of the decent drum or bass sounds that I hear are made from more than one instrument.. There is nothing unusual in using two kick drums to get 'that' sounds. Using a normal bass guitar sounds with a constant organ sound can make the world of difference.. Try it with drums too..

Lost Ability to monitor recording in Cakewalk Homestudio

Helpppppppppppp please. Ive got Homestudio 2002 and a soundblaster live card plenty of ram 589 megs intel 800 chip bla bla bla ....everything has been going fine. Suddenly while i was playing along with a track......i couldnt hear my guitar anymore. I could see it in the record meter, but i coulnt hear it. It recorded fine , sounded fine on playback but i can no longer hear my instrument until after its recorded. I can hear the rest of the tracks fine, just not the one I'm recording now. In fact I used to be able to hear the guitar always whether or not i was recording or whatever but now its totally dead. If this makes any sense to anyone please respond. Im in a bad way over this. :-) Bobby Monroe "The Monroes"

Re: Lost Ability to monitor recording in Cakewalk Homestudio

Did you try the obvious: Remove and replace the operator? On a side note, do you still live in that pink house with the half & half roof?

Audio track syncronicity problems in cubasis

My audio tracks are always out of sync , generally they can be put right by delaying the following track or by moveing it physically . This is a pain in the arse , it takes time and shreds the creative flow and it is rarely completely accurate . I have a soundblaster 5.1 card and an AMD K62\500 . I am running windows 98 . This is a 1999 version of cuebasis. Please e mail me with any possible solutions , have tried all the usual ones . Thankyou .

Re: Audio track syncronicity problems in cubasis

I have found similar problems with cubase vst 32. There is supposed to be a way of fixing this in the audio setup device, but I have not managed to overcome this problem.

I ended up forsaking recording with this software and now use Cakewalk - however Quartz Audio is pretty good too, but basic in comparison to cubase

Basic Noise Reduction and EQ

Hello! I am ISO a very basic 2ch software for Mac OSX that I can improve and remaster an existing CD with, via noise reduction, EQ, perhaps an exciter. Is anybody aware of such a program? I just downloaded Audioicy (something like that) it's ok, but there no EQ! :-(

Re: Basic Noise Reduction and EQ

Peak is essentially an audio editor but can do some click and pop repair as well as supporting software from companies like Arboretum through plugins (although I don't think Arboretum make OSX plugs other than for their Montage software which is well worth a look),

There is a demo for OSX. Bias Peak is the name.

p.s could be others. Ask around..
