DJing Software

This is a message to all you music gurus. I am getting into the groove
of DJing on the PC. Could you kindly tell me which software is good for me.
I have downloaded Virtual turn tables, Tactile 12000, MJ studio and PCDJ Silver.

I don't mind downloading a few more, but the list at this site for
Djing software is confusing. So kindly help me by giving your valuable advice as
to which software I could use. It would nive if you could also email me your
answers. Also please tell me if there are any websites containing information
to get started as a DJ.

Regards

Arunn

Re: DJing Software

I am using a program called mixmeister pro and pro 5. this program is one of the better programs out there. this program inables you to beatmix or the good old fasion cross fader. I would rather use this program over any other program any DAY!

also with mixmeister pro 5 you can add direct x dsp's to a whole song or parts of songs to give your people more. hope this helps...good luck

Re: DJing Software

the best programs are traktor dj from native instruments.com,,,,,,, and atomixmp3 from atomixmp3.com
with these 2 programs you dont have to know how to dj simply insertt the music into 2 diff players and then click a button and the beats are matched and all you have to is to mess around w ith the effects and make the mix better also sound forge is an editor not a mixxing program and acid is verry hard to learn ive been on it for 2 years so i know what iam saying oh sound forge ois from sonic foundry same as acid.........sonic foundry .com

get atomixmp3 or traktor they rock.........

The best music software for creating dj mixes is basically down to personal preference. I f you have just started getting into mixing I would recommend either Acid , which is made by Soundforge, or Cubasis vst which is made by Steinberg. These programs can be bought fairly cheaply(around £30) and if you spend the time learning how it all works can reward you with excellent results.I would say that Acid is easier to use and has a feature which allows you to speed up music without changing its pitch.
Cubasis has the added advantage of midi though which is essential for controlling keyboards when creating remixes.

Setting up Halion with Cubase

I`ve just bought Halion and am having difficulty setting it up with Cubase. Does it work with Cubase Vst 24 v 3.65? Thanks.

Cubase 3.65

Probablly not I'm afraid James. Halion is VST2 instrument and I think only Cubase v5 + above is version 2 compat. Maybe u can get a refund or update to latest cubase version?

Re: Cubase 3.65

How Can I put my Cubase songs straight onto a CD?

NapAmp

Hello,

I keep having a problem connecting to server using NapAmp. Is there a special username or password needed? Does Napster have to be on my hard drive? Please help.

Thx.

Re: NapAmp

Seeing as the Napster servers are closed down for the time being, it's not suprise that you can't connect!

WAV to Excel utility...?

I'm looking for a utility or package that can convert from WAV format to something that can be imported into Excel (tab or comma delimited?) for inspection and manipulation. Any ideas?

Re: WAV to Excel utility...?

You can do it with a macro in excel supposing that your WAV file is on the same computer. Also it depends, what time you want to start playinog your WAV?

Re: WAV to Excel utility...?

No idea, but it's a cool thing to want to do. Best of luck finding the software.

in -line recording

i have the right cable and i know that the line in goes to the computer but where does the red and white cable connect to aux or aidio my stereo has aux r&l and audio r&l please help me so i can begin recording my cassettes???????????

in line recording

im having problems trying to record cassettes to mp3s
i have the right cable but i dont know where to connect them. i know the in-line connects to the computer buy where does the red and white cable connects to(aux) or (audio) and are both connect to the same which color goes where?

Re: in line recording

It would help if you stated what tapedeck you are using as they all vary.
If there are no audio jacks at the back of the set such as is the case in a lot of ghetto blasters, you will have to come from the phones jack with a sterio patch cord. To do that you need to have the tapedeck vol down real low and adjust your recording levels in the puter recording volume control.
If you have a creative sound card, you can do this from the creative recorder.
If the set you have has jacks at the back they should be coloured red and white same as your patch chord.
if not, just put one patch on and see which side it is recording to and swap it over if sound is coming out the wrong side on your puter.
Mark them left and right for future referance.
They should be marked audi out or aux out.

line out of tape deck (or phones out with different lead) - red

try "rec out" or "record" on the back of the tape deck

sound card midi in/out lead

Can anyone tell me the pin connections on the 15 pin 'D' connector for midi? £20 for 50p and 80p connectors with a bit of cable between them is a bit much! Thanks !

lead to go from a sound card (5.1)

do u know where i can get a lead from to go from a sound card to a home theater (sub woffer) i think its a 2 to St phoneos

Re: sound card midi in/out lead

Hope you're good with a soldering iron! It's not just a cable - the MIDI signals are isolated from the soundcard to make data transfer more reliable and to protect the soundcard and MIDI device for spurious signals. All good MIDI cable are opto-isolated. You can find info on making your own cable at http://www.amsky.com/~cirkuit/hacker/sb2midi.html

cd to ,midi conversion?

i own a PC. i have music that i want to put up on my website. However the only files that my host supports are .mid ,midi and wav files. they do not reccomend using wav files because they are to big and will cause the music to play back intermitently. is there a conversion software to upload a CD to ,midi file?

Re: cd to ,midi conversion?

Unless the file consists of a single instrument, it's impossible to convert a WAV or CDA file (the type found on an audio CD) to a MID file. All a MID files contains is information about which notes to play and which instrument to play them with. Thus, all the important sound generating stuff is on the user's computer, not the website.

Thus I don't know any program to convert cda or wav into midi format, I don't think it's impossible to do it, because it's possible to analyse an sepparate the different tones of different instruments in an audio signal, it's like what the karaoke plugin on winamp does, so it should be possible to do this kind of conversion.

Sorry for my bad english, I hope you'll understand it. If somebody gets to know about a program like this, please send me an e-mail. If I found it I'll post the url here.

Thanks.

are you windows me compatable? i don't see it on your web page.

Re: downloads

Some programs are compatible. But ME was just a blip in the OS scheme of things. People are now moving to XP. But there's still heaps of programs which need to be ported to XP. Just try a search and look for ME.

fruityloop live recording ?

hello!
i would like to know witch software i can tuse to record my fruityloop song in live.

thank you.

Re: fruityloop live recording ?

any audio editor or audio sequencer running in the background should do it so long as your soundcard allows u to open it and u set your setting up correctly in soundcard/audio preferences. why u wanna rec? just export to wav - u cn automate fruity parameteres like nothing else.

Christmas gift ADVICE needed!

Hi,
I want to surprise my boyfriend with a new computer for Christmas (must be a laptop because we travel a lot). He is studying sound engineering at the moment, working with programs like Cubase and Pro Tools, etc. I don't know if a PC is just as good as a Mac for these purposes, since they certainly are cheaper...
Any advice anyone has is very appreciated, thanks!
Jessika

Re: Christmas gift ADVICE needed!

Hi Jessika - you very nice to your man no?

Well PC or Mac platform essentially has no bearing on what programs u run. They are not hugely dissimilar. What is best will depend on your guys preference. If he uses PC at work maybe get PC but he may use Macs in which case compatability would suggest a Mac gift. HOWEVER there are very many quality programs for music especially which are not released in Mac versions. U can run hundreads of thing on a PC which don't run on a MAC! So beware. PC's are cheaper yes and performance is better for price obviously. Cubase + Pro Tools do have Mac versions I think but plenty other stuff not. Also soundcards on MAcs sometimes can't be updated I believe. Hope he like the gift!!

Steve

Forget that last one..

Too many cliche's...

I work in and out of many studios and trained as an Audio engineer in the late 80's in London England. I can't remember the last studio I went to that used Windows as an audio platform. I am not rubbishing windows, just stating a fact that pro studio's and engineers almost always use a Mac.

Pro-tools, as a professional recording package has only (relatively) recently come to the PC as well as a decent version of Cubase or Logic Audio. The Mac does often lack choice for a Genre' but there is something out there for everyone on the platform... nuff said on that.

There are no Audio card Issues with a Laptop Mac... If anything, the iBooks or G4 powerbook's inclusion of a firewire port (rarely seen on a windows compatible laptop) supports proper audio interfacing. USB is standard.

The simple point here is, DON'T believe everything you read. People are often more into personal reassurance for their own purchases than offering decent balanced advice to someone that wants to do something right and is spending a lot of money in the process. If my Girlfriend was studying Carpentry, I would find out the tools the pro's use and buy those... You can hardly go wrong.

Simple advice is... Find out what he uses at work (college) and consider one of those. The chances are it will be a Mac. If it's a Windows machine then he may feel more at home with it, you'll have to squeeze an opinion out of him.

From a pro's point of view, Mac is the most purchased by a mile for Audio/Midi/Editing in a pro-studio environment. I am not saying that it is better... but it is the first choice of the Pro and that's a fact.

One last thing regarding the last post... The iBook is great value for money versus similar windows laptops. Mac's are traditionally more expensive than Windows machines but to most Mac users, this is well worth it. This price issue is hardly the case when you size up the iBooks features. The Powerbooks G4 is an awsome machine for the Audio traveller. If you can stretch to it, that's the machine that will surely bring the largest 'Whooop' of delight when rips off the wrapping paper...

Good luck

Carpenters Song Poll

Love Karen Carpenter's voice... There's a 'song poll' page and it's got every single song they recorded. Worth a hit. I think.

My most favorite Carpenters song is A Place To Hideaway but the song doesn't seem very popular.
