I think dave might be referring to your obnoxious
use of cookie requests, in my old browser, every page request
results in a barrage of 6 cookie requests. This is pretty bad.
Especially since cookies aren't even needed for posting on this
board.

Couldn't your web people just revise it to just one cookie request ?

Who me???

Dbpms... (like the name by the way., can I have it..!)..

I don't actually have anything to do with Hitsquad other than the fact that I have been coming to this forum for a couple of years or more..

Need money for Programs?

TURN 6 (six) DOLLARS INTO $6000 or even $60000 EASY AND HONESTLY!!! READING THIS MESSAGE WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOREVER !!!!!!PLEASE READ THIS ALL!!!!!!!!! !!!!IT HELPED ME & IT CAN HELP YOU!!!! !!!! NOT A SCAM !!!! !!!I REPEAT NOT A SCAM!!! THIS ONLY COST YOU A 6.00 CASH !!!INVESTMENT!!! IT DOES WORK !!!PLEASE READ ALL!!! I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and came across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought, "Yeah right, this must be a scam", but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and address stated in the article. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at #6, and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured: "what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and $6.00, right?" Then I invested the measly $6.00. Well GUESS WHAT!?... within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was shocked! I figured it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about $25.00. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over $1,000.00! In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it's still coming in rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps, I have spent more than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, WHY it works... Also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as you need it. I promise you that if you follow the directions exactly, that you will start making more money than you thought possible by doing something so easy! Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully! (print it out or download it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come in! It's easy. It's legal. And, your investment is only $6.00 (Plus postage) IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not illegal; and it is 99% no risk - it really works! If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary dividends. PLEASE NOTE: Please follow these directions EXACTLY, and $50,000 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue its success by carefully adhering to the instructions. You will now become part of the Mail Order business. In this business your product is not solid and tangible, it's a service. You are in the business of developing Mailing Lists. Many large corporations are happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. However, the money made from the mailing lists is secondary to the income which is made from people like you and me asking to be included in that list. Here are the 4 easy steps to success: STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece of paper "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST." Now get 6 US $1.00 bills and place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so the bill will not be seen through the envelope (to prevent thievery). Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it! Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed legal. Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses: #1) Jeremy Patrick P O Box 570632 Houston, TX 77257 #2)Anthony Koller 13 Holly street, Gluocester, Ma 01930 #3)Erfan Haroon 24335 Fairmount dr., Dearborn, Mi 48124 #4) R. Koester, 201 Bancroft Rd., Burlingame CA 94010 #5)Anne-Marie Marszalik212 E. Grantley circle, Elmhurst, IL 60126 #6)SDM 72 Guideboard Rd. Waterford, NY 12188 STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up 1 place (#2 becomes #1, #3 becomes #2, etc...) and add YOUR name and address as number 6 on the list. STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close to original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000 groups) All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you make! You won't get very much unless you post like crazy. :) This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to Title 18 Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the Postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of these steps for yourself and, whenever you need money, you can use it again, and again. PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants and by their carefully adhering to the directions. Look at it this way. If you are of integrity, the program will continue and the money that so many others have received will come your way. NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you, either on a computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you. This VERIFIES that you are truly providing a service. (Also, it might be a good idea to wrap the $1 bill in dark paper to reduce the risk of mail theft.) so, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed, six members will be reimbursed for their participation as a List Developer with one dollar each. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 position you will be receiving thousands of dollars in CASH!!! What an opportunity for only $6.00 ($1.00 for each of the first six people listed above) Send it now, add your own name to the list and you're in business!
As long as you are fair and honest, this will work for you.

download problems

everytime i try to download something DAP tells me it is a URL address and should be opened in a browser i have tried this as well as clicking "continue as is" but have not been able to download any software at all
Please help
i desperatly need a cd burning program as i have already deleted Adaptec's easy cd

Re: download problems

DAP doesn't work with this site as far as my experiences go. You have to download manually. if you can't download from any other sites or ftp servers, the file you are looking for probably doesn't exist on a public server.

DAP & download problems

: DAP doesn't work with this site as far as my
: experiences go. You have to download manually.
: if you can't download from any other sites or
: ftp servers, the file you are looking for
: probably doesn't exist on a public server.

I can confirm that DAP (Download Accelerator Plus)
is not compatible with the public version of this
web site, however it does work with the <a href="http://membersonly.hitsquad.com/membersonly/" target="_top">Members
Only</a> version of the site.

The resaon for this is that we use SSI instead of
CGI to direct you to the download file. This problem
exists on a number of popular download sites that
use SSI or Javascript instead of CGI.

Hitsquad and other popular download sites do this
for a number of reasons - in our case it is to
reduce server loads while still allowing us to
track which programs are being downloaded.

There are several ways to handle this problem:

1. Turn off DAP and download manually (I do that)
2. Subscribe to the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/membersonly/?http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/wwwboard/messages/107230.html" target="_top">Hitsquad Membership</a> service (I do that too)
3. When downloading copy the part of the URL after
"/rd.shtml?" and paste that into DAP

About a very nice CD-R program (Ripper/Burner)

Exact Audio Copy is a very nice freeware CD-burning
and ripping program. The nicest things about it are its
attention to preventing errors and it's ability to be
set to many different speeds. It is extremely adaptable to
both old and new CD drives, and can be made to automatically
launch other programs such as mp3 encoders or wave editors.
I also like how track names can be specified according to code
rules. It doesn't mess with your registry like most other CD
programs, and it doesn't need to be installed, you just run it.

The only trick, is that you must read a few screens and check
the settings before you start working, for best results.
It's easy to use, but to get the full power, you need to do a
bit of experimenting.

Music Files

Please Help!!
Where can I find user friendly software to download to enable me to send music over the net to my pals etc.I've been advised to try and use winamp but I can't find sufficient help to enable me to do so.I want something that will tell me how to compress the files etc. Any advise would be much appriciated - CHEERS!!!

Music Files - direct send to contact

Nigel,

Most e-mail account limit the file size, so
I would suggest looking at one solution for a number of different instant messengers – this program would allow you to transmit files directly to your friend if they have an instant messenger account. http://www.trillian.cc/.

This program eliminates Spam, installation bugs, or the need to have 4 programs running because you have several friends using different messenger systems. MSN, ICQ and AOL’s IM all will allow you to send files to contacts on the same messenger system. However, with Trillian you have one program that will let you accomplish the same feat.

You know were the file you want to transmit is located, just right click on your contacts name and then left click on send file, it will open a dialog box letting you chose the file and then send. You will need to add your friends to this messenger system, but it is easy to search for them by e-mail address, or nick name.

Yahoo messenger allows you to send files also, but limits the file size. Trillian will not allow file transmission of files with Yahoo messenger unfortunately.

You will need to open accounts, in all 4-messenger systems

AOL instructions: Visit a friend that uses AOL’s IM system, and establish an account on their system. “Remember your password” Do not download it on your own system, unless it is 100% necessary because it tries to put a tracker “spyware” on your computer system.

MSN, this one is easy to establish with, Trillian and it seems to have the fastest transfer system, using Trillian.

ICQ, visit a friend, and establish an account as in AOL above.

Yahoo, visit a friend and open an account, do not download the messenger on your machine or get ready to fight a battle eliminating the messenger program. You will find it almost as difficult as AOL’s IM in ridding yourself of the pop up messenger. However, this account will not allow file transfers with trillian.

For example, this is one posting on PC magazine solutions: If you download AOL’s new version of Netscape Communicator & AIM its Instant Messenger, be careful and do not install an uninvited "download manager" in the deal? If you think a download manager sounds useless, you are mistaken. It actually is useful to someone--just not to you.

Netscape's SmartDownload, has just one objective: to monitor and log your download activity, and then send targeted Web advertising to you based on that activity. This AOL program is not the only nosy Parker’s in town. Hundreds of freeware, shareware, ad-supported, and even shrink-wrapped commercial applications contain components that maintain a record of your online activity and transmit that information to an advertiser's server.

I always run Lavasoft’s Ad-aware trying to keep advertising spyware out my system. Also, be certain AOL does not add itself or it collaborators to your I.E. trusted Internet sites circumventing your permission.

For more spyware information: http://cexx.org/problem.htm

Re: Music Files

You could just email it to them. Winamp isn't for sending or receiving files, but playing them. You could use an Instant Messenger like ICQ to share your files as well.

Are old macs really dead?

What could I use my PowerBook 160 for? I have a P80 with a serial host port. The manual is not helpful as to the usefulness of this port. I have heard some reports that the Mac is unreliable for midi..

Old Macs are NOT dead.

Much depends upon what system software you are using.
System 7.5.3 is still very stable, and is the base level for
most upgrades. 7.5.5 fixed most of the 7.5.3 bugs, but you can
jump directly from 7.5.3 to at least an 8.2 upgrade. Carbon upgrades
allow you to run MacOS X softwares on some systems (perhaps 8-9).
System 7.5.3 softwares run nicely on old 68K processor macs and also
run on powerPC's.

The important thing is to learn to download files
from Apple's support web site. Be sure to thoroughly browse this site.
Sometimes it is your only link to stable system files and upgrades and
bug-fixes. I have achieved non-crashing mac status via patch fixes and
upgrades from the Apple Support Site. Other freeware programs out
there can help prevent crashes too, such as WDEF Leopard, and my favorite:
FlushIt! FlushIt! is great because it makes RAM and virtual RAM more stable.
I have discovered this program to be useful in speeding up downloading and
increasing audio rendering capabilities.

You could use your mac for audio editing and sequencing and MIDI sequencing.
A Nice Gigasampler-type program is vSamp (freeware). Sure, it's not gigasampler,
but it's the same general principal. D-SoundPro is another nice old program to
use on an old mac for audio editing and MIDI control. It can aslo do sample dumps
via MIDI to hardware samplers. SoundApp is a must-have, and freeware programs like
SonicWorx Artist go a long way with 24bit files. For VST modules, you can use the
freeware mda plug-ins, and run them through the freeware xVST and rVST.
Wave201 is a very nice freeware software synth that is OMS compatible but can
run without it. It renders to AIFF files. If you are willing to pay a little,
(or you have the crack), then SndSampler and Sound Studio Classic and Sound Sculptor II
will be great assets. Coaster will be good for recording, too.

A mac with a serial port is just fine for MIDI.
Some folks got scared about MIDI on macs because of
two competing MIDI system drivers: OMS, and MIDI Manager (Apple).

Actually, both of them work just fine, and are free downloads.
Programs such as Logic Fun, can use either of them.
Some programs, such as Trax (an old sequencer) have their own
built-in MIDI drivers. This is especially the case with MIDI
patch Editor/Librarians.

The main issue about serial port MIDI, is that you must make sure
that you don't use MIDI or serial printing at the same time on the
same serial port. The same goes for serial modems. These errors are
much like IRQ address conflicts on PC's, but much easier to fix.

Old macs are just fine for audio and music if you take the time
to search the net for what you need. Since your PowerBook is
inherently a PowerMac, most PPC (PowerPC) programs will work
on your system.

Macs can be tricky about audio if your sound system files
don't match your music programs, but that is a compatibility issue
easily resolved.

Most of the better sound programs on Mac require at least QuickTime 3, and
SoundManager 3. I think they may even come together. At any rate, they
can be obtained via free download from Apple's Support Area.

If you have the FTP download program Fetch (3.0.1 is a nice version),
then you already have bookmarks to some nice Mac Freeware sites that
each have an audio section. AMUG (Apple Mac Users Group) is a good one,
and even the ISP service Compuserve has tons of nice old and new mac
software for efficient downloads.

You might like to take advantage of these particular keywords in
searching for your mac softwares:

MAC
DOWNLOAD
FTP (file transfer protocol = downloadable files)
PUB (in a public directory = downloadable files)
HQX (Binary archive: could be for mac or pc or other)
SIT (StuffIt archive: mac-specific download format)
68K (old mac programs for pre-PowerPC macs such as the Mac SE)
PPC (PowerPC Mac: usually implies sytem 7.5.3 or higher)
FAT (programs that run on old 68K macs or PPC macs)

Be sure to check sites such as allmacintosh.com (tucows.com),
pure mac, and macorchard.com

Actually, a nice keyword search for "old mac audio" will
show you a lot of good leads.

In summary, old macs are not dead, and they are not bad with
MIDI. PC's may have much more freeware out there, but they are
a bit more complex when it comes to trouble-shooting.

Re: Old Macs are NOT dead.

Three cheers for dBPMS - that was an excellent
post (my fav of the month!)

Some of my friends have found that older Macs are
just fine for sequencing and playing MIDI files
at gigs.

We also have a comprehensive list for free Mac
music software at

midi file converter

HI,I WAS AFTER SOMETHING THAT CAN CONVERT MY OLD ATARI MUSIC FILES SO THAT THEY CAN BE USED ON A PC,DOE'S SUCH SOFTWARE EXIST,
THANKS MARC

Re: midi file converter

I have recently bought a keyboard which is Panasonic sx-kc611.
Which is similar to the Technics K600 keyboard.

Although it reads *.mid (midi files) and plays them with no problem, its when it saves my created music onto floppy disk on its own drive, the music is saved as three different file formats (.lsw .seq .sqf) that I have never heard of before.

the literature with the keyboard says "on play back you can enjoy GM (General Midi) as well as SMF (Standard Midi Files)"

So then

Question 1) what are the (.lsw .seq .sqf) files ?

Question 2) My problem is how can I convert the (.lsw .seq .sqf) files to (*.mid) files
so I can use themon my computers midi file player ?

Question 3) can I save my music from the keyboard direct to the *.mid midi file format ?

Question 4) how can i save thre rhythms generated by the keyboard to the midi format ?

Question 5) Is there a converter available to convert to *.mid once ive saved it in the (.lsw .seq .sqf) file format ?

Question 6) or is there a player available for my computer that reads these (.lsw .seq .sqf) file formats and gives one the option to save as *.mid ?

someone please please help me
