Re: iMac and recording

Ok....I have been recording for years on a Yamaha MT2X multitrack. I think its time to get into digital recording. I have an IMac G4..I know I can buy recording software...Cakewalk, Anvil etc. What I need to know is what I need to get the music into the computer from my mixing board or bypass the mixing board all together. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Craig

Re: iMac and recording

Hi Craig
Im not sure tis is what you want but I got the griffin iMic (around £40) which ment I could put an input in from my mixing desk. It worked for me and I have a G3 imac.

old answers to old questions

Cure for cancer:

1) Vegetarianism
2) Organic Permaculture instead of chemical-based agriculture
3) Stop manufacturing plastics, polymers, and dyes.
4) Stop burning synthetic and fossil fuels
5) Stop placing electromagnetic and radioactive substances or devices near people.
6) Stop producing tobacco products
7) Stop producing drinking alcohol
8) Reduce consumption of salts
9) Reduce or eliminated fried foods
10) Stop chlorinating and flouridating drinking waters
11) Stop illegal (and some legal) dumping of toxic materials into the soil and water
12) Don't create genetically modified plants or animals (whoops, too late).
Many of them have totally unpredictable physical and chemical properties. Documented cases exist of genetic alterations made from non-toxic materials becoming unexpectedly toxic.

13) Support and protect pre-industrial or anti-industrial cultures.
14) Pay attention to non-toxic solutions to pest problems proposed by
biologists, anthropologists, and biophysicists.
15) Stop voting for ignorant leaders who politics and alliances reveal disrespect or hostility towards community well-being. Guess who decided to allow more poison into the nation's drinking water supply? Mr. Bush, yes.
16) Stop allowing nations to buy and trade "points" for environmental safety. You can't "buy" clean elements or safety into existence. It takes actual action.

World Poverty:

Food:
1) Vegetarianism
2) share all agricultural knowledge past and present worldwide and encourage the sharing
3) Stop governments from using control of food as a weapon
4) make knowledge of food cultivation mandatory for everyone, worldwide. Specifically, organic permaculture
5) encourage cultures of sharing, and don't discourage cultures of sharing
6) consider Pascifist Anarchy a legitimate option for human culture.

Employ similar plans for Shelter, Water, Clothing, Medicine, and Educations supporting them.

7) stop believing technology will solve all your problems
8) stop believing that politics aren't inherently hostile
9) stop believing in religions that are political

Re: old answers to old questions

Very true. I just used organicly-grown fruit for 24hrs to get over a nasty cold. On other fronts, I found a wonderful slab of metallic grunge called 'Diet Creeps' by the wonderful Fudge Tunnel. Anyone else a fan o these English guys?

Republicans cause cancer

Interesting note about that band. I think I've heard them once. Not sure.
About the politics: I just read an associated press article revealing that U.S. Republicans are trying to modify a pending bill to allow oil companies to produce more MBTE and to stop calling it harmful.

Although your newspaper won't tell you, MBTE is known to cause cancer in humans. Right now Republicans want to make it easier for greedy people to put a known cancer-causing poison, MBTE, into the air, soil, and water.

Cancer is not a mystery. Greed causes cancer.
Mr. Bush probably will support his fellow Republicans against fellow humankind. So, you see, the war is being fought all around. Politicians and corporations have a death wish for us all, just like other psychos and fanatics.

in search of an software instrument extarcator

meaning
the software records an analogic CD on my PC view the various instruments tracks and gives me the ability to take off whatever instruments i want. Or for instance only keep the drums or bass etc...
Does anyone know if it exists
thanx
JM

Re: in search of an software instrument extarcator

Sorry, no such technology has yet been devised. The
human brain is still the only thing that can separate
the sounds of different instruments.

You can get partial separation with the use of EQ. For
example you can eliminate high frequencies to mostly
end up with low drums and bass - not perfect but you
can then use this in a mix and "cover up" the others
instruments with more prominent sounds at higher
frequencies and volumes.

How is XP limiting Gigastudio's access to RAM?

If anyone has a solution to this problem, it would save me weeks of rebuilding my system: Gigastudio 160 only uses about a third of the 756 mb of Ram. I have a Hewelett Packard zt1180 laptop (PIII 1200mhz) with a factory installation of windows XP home. I put it in standard PC mode, then per Hammerfalls bulletin, took it out of Standard PC by doing a SYS overlay with a windows disk. Then I added service pak 1 and did tons of audio optimization of normal user accessible stuff and sys config start up items per blackviper.com. I then Installed a 512 chip of ram in slot 2 along with a 256 in slot 1 and did the auto sys config. Then I reversed the slots the chips were in and did no further auto sys config of ram.

The problem is that when I go over about 29% of memory in Giga 160 I get messages saying there is not enough memory to allocate to that instrument. Tascam says they have had this with a few OEM installations of XP (Steinberg & Hammerfall DSP Cardbus drivers also crashed HP's installation of XP). Why does this happen and is there a solution besides re-installation of XP?
Also, my 2x2 midisport usb midi interface would install both the usb & midi drivers, would show up fine under sound video & game controllers, as well as usb controllers, but would not show up in sound & audio control panel/ audio under midi playback. This is on the heavily loaded IRQ 9. Can it be moved on a laptop and is this related to the above problem. I am not using the printer port. Midiman tech support had been helping me install this for 2 weeks without success. Would I have the same problem with another interface?
Thanks for any help in advance. It is going to be so incredible to play Gigasamples and to record outside of my studio!!! I should be able to record 4 live audio tracks via the Mona plus 8 more mic preamps through the amazing Roland vm-3100 pro digital mixer and it's additional DIF-AT interface via 8 channels of ADAT light pipe!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If anyone is interested in the mixer, it is discontinued and being blown out, as of a few weeks ago, at zzounds.com for $440.
The rest of my system is a Mona cardbus audio interface, Cubase vst 32 5.1r1, the latest Gigastudio for xp streaming from a Soundchaser built externafire wire Granite case & 7200 rpm drive, and an aweful lot of patience and hope that this will work.
Jammin' with my nano orchestra to go,

Recording from minidisc to the computer

I want to record some music off of my minidisc and put it on my computer so I can make a CD. What software is good for those kind of jobs?

Re: Recording from minidisc to the computer

well this is 2 years late, but download "total recorder" - its a live recording program that reads your soundboard. combine that with a line in cord from your minidisc and you should be set

Re: Profession CD music made by me

So you're saying they sound good on the computer but crap on the disc? Maybe you need to experiment with some mastering software, such as T-Racks.

Band/MP3 hosting - your opinions

Hi all,

I'm thinking of exploring some of the options out there for those of you that want to have your music hosted on sites such as MP3.com.

What sites do you recommend? Have you any great stories to tell or horror tales?

I'd appreciate some feedback on this.

Cheers
Geoff

This week I had the same problem in Windows Media Player : "No device detected. Press F5 to refresh.".

Just a deinstall of some burning-software resolved it.
In my case I removed "Padus Easy CD Creator".

Live MP3 streaming jam sessions?

Would it be possible for musicians (say 2 to begin with) to jam over the web using MP3 files? I assume both have at least 512k connections. I've had a look at some VB controls, but haven't found anything useful. Can an MP3 file be created directly or is an intermediate .WAV file always required? (shows how much I know!). If there was a DLL available that recorded the MP3 files then that'd be a big start. Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Online Recording of rm, ram files

Respected Sir

I am working as a System Admin, in Sri Venkateswara Institute of Technology, i am in need to download somr of rm & ram extension files from the net, these files are not downlodable but can be listern online.

I want to know that is there any freeware software that can capture these Video/Audio rm files & can store it in to the HDD.

I would be very much thankful to you, if you help me in this regard.

Thanking you,

Balasubramanian.C

Re: Online Recording of rm, ram files

The "rm" file is just a text file telling Real Player where to find the "ram" file which does contain the audio. If there is a link to the "ram" file on the page, just right click and choose the "save link as" option. If the link is to a "rm" file, do the same to save the "rm" file. Then open the "rm" file up in any text editor, and you should be able to get the address of the "ram" file. You may (no guarantee that you will be granted access to it) be able to paste in the address to your browser. If it works, you should then be able to save the "ram" file from your browser. Hope this helps.

You've got this the wrong way round. The ram file points to the ra file.
