What do I need to copy the words and music from my karaoke cd,s?I can copy the music but does not copy the words.I have nero 5 burning rom.For windows 98 & 95.I would like to make backup copies in case one gets damaged.

If you have been getting errors when you try to run Mac software that says "NavigationLib" is missing, then this could be helpful:

As I understand it, CarbonLib is for making Mac apps look "Carbonized", and NavigationLib is for--yes--you guessed it--navigating.

Currently, NavigationLib is contained in a shared library file (typecode='shlb') called Navigation. Unfortunately, one of the only places to obtain it is in the installation for 'CarbonLib'. To make matters worse, the current installer of CarbonLib doesn't install on systems below OS 8.5 or 8.6. Your only route is to use the freeware TomeViewer to pull out the CarbonLib yourself, bypassing the Installer. This will get you CarbonLib 1.6, but won't get you 'NavigationLib', since it doesn't appear to be contained in this version. However, I have scoured the net to find Navigation, and here it is:

This will allow users of MacOS 8.x preceding OS 9 or OS X to run many so-called Carbon versions of software and/or programs that utililise the more attractive but privacy-infringing 'Navigation Services'. I say privacy-infringing because they create a history list, much like annoying Microsoft products.

Nevertheless, many decent audio programs are still built for a base system of MacOS 7.x or 8.x with just a few extension or shared library add-ons. Typically, if you have QuickTimeLib, ObjectSupportLib, AppearanceLib, NavigationLib, and CarbonLib, then you can run lots of recent software. Fortunately, QuickTimeLib is actually embedded within QuickTime PowerPlug or later versions of QuickTime, and many of the other libraries are embedded within the System file in increasing versions of MacOS.

As I have said before, sometimes you can get your system to behave better if you merely rename a copy of the file that is know to contain the "Lib" file to be what the system is asking for. After that, change the typecode to "shlb" for shared library, and put the copy in the same folder as the nagging application.

The best example of this is to copy your system file and rename it ObjectSupportLib for those programs that need it. Of course, change the typecode to 'shlb".

Recently I downloaded CarbonLib for a nagging text editor that needed it to run even though the documentation of system requirements said that it merely needed OS 8.1. I installed the CarbonLib extension, but the program still didn't work!!! Luckily, I knew this trick, so I just changed the type from 'INIT' to "shlb" and stuck it in the same folder as the nagging program. It worked.

PC users should find this story familiar if they have ever dealt with .DLL files. .DLLs and Shared Libraries are basically the same thing. On both Macs and PC's, you can usually choose whether to put them in a System folder or in an application's folder. Typically, it's freeware and shareware that complains about these library files, because it's shareware and freeware authors that like to take advantage of the reduced programming load. Instead of having to program so much, they can just program 'around' the shared library components, and leave the responsibility up to the user to get those files.

Anyhow, I hope you found this informative and useful in getting some of your shareware/freeware to work better for you.
