Question!

Hi
I saw some people playing their guitars over PC, using some cool efects downloaded from the net! If U know, please, tell me where can I download it for free?
Thanks!
Greetings from Croatia

Re: Question!

What you are after are real-time effects. Most of the software isn't free, but you will be able to try the software out. You'll find the effects in the Guitar Section of this site. Just go to the front page and take it from there.

error with winmx

I successfully downloaded new winmw 3.1, but when I click on the icon, an error occurs where I often must restart my computer. This error never occured in the older version. I really enjoyed the software but I now must find a new service to download the sudio's I want. Please E-mail me back so I might continue service with winmx. THANK YOU!

Re: error with winmx

I get an error2 file e:...where I put my downloads. I had tried 3.1 but wasn't crazy about the interface and went back to 2.6 and the error is still there. I think it's them, not the prog. It seams to get mp3's but not the large zip I was going for.

Turning a CD ROM into a DVD Player!

I would like to know if technology has gone so far as to enable users to turn a normal CD ROM Drive into a DVD Player! And if so where do I find the Shareware or Software?

When upgrading computer spend $49.00 for a DVD player

Yes, Andy is correct, However with prices now affordable, work a few hours overtime and make the purchase of a DVD player. The decision to be made is to install it into your computer or one to hook to your TV.

Finally, you may need to be aware of the fact that, generally speaking, DVD players bought in one geographical region (say, Europe) will not play a DVD bought in another geographical region (say, the United States). However, it is possible to buy "region-free" DVD players, that is, DVD players that will play most DVDs bought in any geographic region. Particularly for those of you who live outside the U.S. and Canada, you might want to think about whether or not this is an important feature for you.

Re: Turning a CD ROM into a DVD Player!

Nope, and it's never going to happen. The laser assembly in a DVD player is different to that in a CD-ROM, so there's no way you can achieve what you're after.

Laptop DJs

I've been adapting a great piece of live performance/mixing software that
would be awesome, the open source application it's based on got 5 paragraphs
in last month's Wired music issue. Only problem, I'm going to lose my
funding unless I can substantiate the audience.

Does anybody know any of the following, or can you point me to any resource
that could help clarify:

How many bedroom DJs there are supposed to be?
Annual sales of DJ equipment - turntables, samplers, sequencers?
*How many downloads or customers the top DJ shareware apps have signed
(Traktor, Final Scratch, AtomixMP3, PCDJ, MixMan)?
*How common digital mixers have become? Mixing off CD? MP3/WAV?

You can send URLs, magazine references, numbers out of your asses, anything
would help. It might save me a job, and a really cool piece of shareware
(honest!). Thanks!

Re: Laptop DJs

: Traktor is HANDS DOWN the BEST

Traktor is good if you're just beatmixing. I've started using Live so I could
add in loops and effects in real time.
I've heard great things about GDam. My brother and I have talked about
networking our laptops to collaborate with it sometime. (the client/server
approach is a very interesting idea)
Anyways, a windows version would expedite our plans:)

Good luck,

Re: Laptop DJs

According to a sales rep @ PCDJ:

>We get 5,000 a day average, for the past 3 years,
>Do the math, much more then thousands,

That would be 5,475,000 downloads! Let me know if you need to know # of
registered users, etc.

Stand-alone Pitch Controller

Is there such a thing as a pitch-bend contoller available as a stand-alone
piece of MIDI gear? I have an old Yamaha V50 I want to get rid of but if I
do--there goes the only hardware controller I have. Has anyone ever heard
of such a thing and or where to start looking for one?

Nope .. But native instruments makes a neat little box that is just a couple
of (very high quality) knobs, if you don't need very much. Also Kenton and
Doepher make knob boxes that seem to be available used for less than US$150,
to say nothing of the increasingly cheap-ass Phatboy. (less than $100 used).

Sys Ex problems, PLEASE HELP

Hello,

I'm having major trouble with my Midisport 4x4. I have it connected to my
Mac G4 via the USB connection, and I am running it with Cubase VST version
4. I use OMS which came supplied with my Midisport.

I can't seem to successfully receive MIDI dumps from various devices. I have
a JV1080, Korg MS2000 and EMU5000 ultra. All of them have trouble sending
MIDI dumps when I try to record them onto Cubase. Sometimes it seems to
work, but the dump is corrupt or incomplete (JV1080), and sometimes it
doesn't register at all (Korg) although the midi i/o indicates activity -
this never happened when I was using my old computer with a serial interface
- everything worked fine. Now it doesn't. I'm getting frustrated. My
creativity is experiencing a serious case of Mr. Floppy, this is really
getting to me.

Has anyone had similar problems??

Can anyone help????

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bart

MAC - and Music

Bart,

Since no one has responded here is my quick suggestion. I do not know either MAC or the software/hardware you have a problem with but if you are in the states, use 10 10 220 and spend 99 cents and telephone a company in San Francisco that knows.

This is not an advertisement just the extent of my MAC knowledge, and where I would go to find the answers...

Free software synth available?

I've been giving my friends a link to my website with a few MIDIs on it. The
only problem is that most of them have the soundcards that came with their
computers, usually the $10 FM synthesis crap. Well, they complain about it
all sounding like Nintendo music, but there's not much I can do. I'm not
going to tell them to go out and get good soundcards for no good reason.

However, I was thinking that there might be some software synth available to
them for free on the Net. Are there any?

doesn't even know what a SysEx command is, so nobody can probably read my
files correctly anyway.

I believe they have a free soft-synth on offer. Never tried it though.

Timidity (free) is one of the best I have tried so far. WinGroove ($20
shareware) is small, works with W31/W9x, and is playing your MIDI here
as I type. They sound good using WinGroove.

Not free, but only $45 is the Edirol/Roland
VSC (virtual sound canvas). Their version "mp1"
works with WinXP and allows output via USB.

The Roland softsynth is very nice. I think that the Yamaha has some
great features on it, and a lot of files out there are mixed for the
Yamaha XG synths -- and won't play correctly on other models (some
might come close, but losing out on effects and messing up instrument
sounds badly tends to ruin them).

I've heard rumors of a "fix" for the SY100XG softsynth for XP. But
I'[ve never tracked them down. Note that Yamaha isn't out of business
or anything remotely like that, so I expect that some official
solution will happen.

It isn't free. Cost is around $40 US or so. Worth it, even if you
have another softsynth, because of its support for XG files and some
really nice voices (if you're a MIDI song maker, its inclusion of a
software VL synth engine is amazing; most excellent acoustic lead
voices like violin and sax).

Now, one other reason to get Roland's VSC is for playing files
arranged for that model (or one of its hardware cousins). Same deal
as with the Yamaha XG synths -- the only way to play the files really
as intended is to use a matching synth, and the softsynth does a very
good job.

XP midi error

Yesterday I was reliably informed that audio applications were optomised
with windows XP-I have a piece of software for writing
basslines(TB2000)-when I launch the program all I get is the following
message-

Exception EmidiInputError in module TB2000.000.TMP at 007CD0F.invalid device

Is this program incompatible with XP??

Athlon Duron 1.0 ghz,256mb RAM-on sony Vaio fx502-notebook.
Thanks-D.

Re: XP midi error

doesn't sound like an incompatibility issue to me, more a setting done wrong
somewhere or missing file, try uninstalling and reinstalling it and see what
happens then...and yes I am using Win Xp and have had no problems with any
soft synths so far.

retrieving recently deleted in error music files

I had a bad experience with Kazaa so i decided to uninstal it, unfortunatly i had created a copy of the music i had downloaded and stored it in my personal files. When I did a search to get rid of any additional Kazaa files, i also deleted the folder in my personal files. I recently installed software "save butt" but that only retrieves what you have deleted after installing save butt. How can I get back these deleted files.

help with fruityloops

hopefully somebody will be able to help me, i'm using fruityloops 3 to create rhythm sections for vocals and guitar. what i am doing is exporting the fruityloops file as a .wav and importing it with pro tools. I was wondering however if there was an easier way of doing this, as the export/import process takes some time and i can't edit the exported wav file if i need to make changes, so the entire process must be repeated.
Is there another program that i can use for recording, similar to protools but that would let me use the actual fruityloops file as the backing track? or can this be done with pro tools? etc

Any help would be greatly appreaciated.
