Pro Tools for OSX

Does anyone know when either protools or logic audio is coming out on OSX? This is absolutely rediculous the amount of time it's taking.

thank you

Apple just bought EMagic (the maker of Logic). They will be developing the program further supporting OSX, but unfortunately for others, abandoning all other Mac OSs and PC support entirely.

interesting adaptec aquired Cequadrat in 1999 - well befor XP op

Kimberly, this product was a european product, did it come with your machine or was this an old cd burner product you found or some one gave you?

I am not certain it would be compatable with XP unless it was preloaded with your computer. You probablly need to make a purchase of upto date cd burning software, compatable with the new XP operating system.

Most common are Roxio, and Nero, and most experenced users can provide help, with either of these two software products (maybe your neighbor can hlp also.) Their are other software products, but these are the most used.

Note Roxio has most of adaptec recording software....

Re: i'm a new user and i would like to burn

Maybe you should contact the cequadrat for such detailed information. Either that, or use a program like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Nero_win32/">Nero</a> which seems to be the best burning software out there.

protools

Can logic audio files be imported into protools. Also when i bring a sample into protools 5.1 le how do i expanded it out or in to match the tempo of the song. I've tried the time compression/expansion plugin from audio suite, it sound very messy.

About time/compression, expansion.

I would assume that Logic Audio files cannot be loaded into
ProTools, but that Sound Designer II files can. Sound Designer
files are often called .SD2 files. Otherwise, you can save the
audio as AIFF files. The actual arrangement might not be as
portable, though. You may need to take down written notes, or
save each track as a audio file separately, using a marker sound
on each track to show the track beginning.

All time compress/expand algorithms are tricky.
Many of them sound messy, and all of them sound
messy when pushed too hard.

The only way to get better time compression/expansion is
to start with higher-quality samples. If you use samples
with a very high sampling rate and a high bit resolution,
then you will hear the changes less if your software can
maintain the quality during the procedure. This is especially
true of high sampling rates.

Your only other course of action is to use some kind of
beat mungeing software such as ReCycle. Using .REX files
allows you to change up the tempo and beat of samples
without much loss of quality. However, this is mostly
restricted to rhythmic, percussion sounds.

Sometimes you can manually compress/expand a sound
by selectively cutting and/or pasting. If you can do
it seamlessly, then you could potentially make tiny little
modifications. You'd be amazed at what you can accomplish
with a calculator and a few nice cuts. The main thing is
to keep the cuts in places where they wont be noticed as
well.

Another issue is whether or not you actually need to match
meter in order to match tempo. Sometimes you can get away
with cutting down one sample into a 3/4 meter sample just
to match a 4/4 meter sample. Depending on the song, it could
work. Similarly, you could replicate the last 2 beats of a 6/8
meter sample to turn it into an 8/8 meter sample.

well, try it out, anyhow.

p.s. = sometimes strategic pitch bending is better
than raw bpm matching. If you can match bpm's
by bending the pitch, then perhaps you'll have
more control over the process.

How to connect Stereo to PC for LP to CD

I would like to use LP Recorder & LP Ripper. My question is there is two output wires (Left & Right) coming out from stereo. My sound card only has one Input plug. Also the stereo plug will not go all the way in to Sound card input. Is there a special adaptor to use to make the connection. If so any suggestion where to buy it.

Thanks for your help

Re: How to connect Stereo to PC for LP to CD

Hi, I'm hoping to burn some of my old LP's & tapes from my stereo onto Cd's by feeding a line from my stereo into the PC. Your question below is similiar to what I'm wondering. 1) can this be done? 2) besides the correct cables, what else is needed as far as hardware or software (PC has in integrated soundcard) 3) What are "LP Recorder & LP ripper"? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide based on your experience.

Re: How to connect Stereo to PC for LP to CD

The line in is usually a stereo 3.5mm jack plug, so you'll need a cable with one of these at one end and two RCA phono plugs at the other.

SB Audigy/Extigy VS Audiophile 2496

Hello everyone, I'm currently considering buying a higher-end audio card and I've got some questions that I can't see to get answered anywhere else.
For my needs, I'm fairly sure that the audio quality of these two cards will be more than adequate. My main concern is with the MIDI interface.
Having tried SoundBlasters' AWE64 and Live!, I am not impressed. The latency when controlling soft synths was about half a second which is unusable.
My first question is if these newer SB cards have better MIDI implementations than their older cards, and second, being a beginner home studio user, I would really like to have the breakout box connections that come with the SB cards but am not sure if it's just a gimmick to hide the short-comings of the card itself.
Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: SB Audigy/Extigy VS Audiophile 2496

lots of outlets have said a clean NO to SB when it comes to pro audio. Audiophile 2496 & the Mia Midi by Echo have the same DACs i.e AK 4528s which are absolutely clean.

However - with the multitude of perks attached with the audigy Platinum pro - which uses Sigmatel chips for Daccing - and are definitely of a lower sampling , oversampling rates than the AK 4528s - you may like to weigh your options - maybe in future u might decide putting a 7.1 speaker smorgarborg !!!

I am faced with the same situation here. So tell us if you have had any pro input from elsewhere.

Will be ever so thankful

High frequencies out of a turntable

Hi,
Can somenone tell me how to raise the high frequency levels i get out of my turntable.Between 12 Khz and 20 Khz there is a significant drop.I also want some advice on finetuning the turntable.

Many thanks in advance

Robert

Re: High frequencies out of a turntable

Are you using an RIAA preamp? When an LP is recorded, bass frequencies are boosted, the mid-range is left alone and the high frequencies (above 10kHz) are reduced. The RIAA preamp is designed to reduce bass and increase high frequencies.

Re: High frequencies out of a turntable

If you're using an amplifier, then it'll have an RIAA pre-amp built in, so that's not the problem (some people think you can connect a record deck straight to a soundcard, and from your description of the problem, I thought that might have been the case).

Do records sound tonally balanced through the speakers (i.e. is the effect only noticable when rocording on the PC).

The other possibilities are that the phono stage in the amp is poor quality, or the cartridge on the record deck is on its last legs.

Connections

I'm a newbie, yeah I know... not another stupid question. But my main concern is, will it hurt my p.c. to directly plug in my amp through midi connections or mic it to the soundcard? If I mic it, I have to use an adapter, 1/4 out to mini in line level. I realize I should actually run through a mixer. But I don't have the space. And besides, I have some really cool digital software that does everything I could possibly need at this point in time,(Anvil Studio, Goldwave + other stuff) and I just want to get a really good sound without cluttering up my work area.It seems like everyone talks about keyboard & hardware hookups. I'm a guitarist, and thats all I want to record with.I have a Line6 AX2 212,Crate 125D, and XP Windows. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

sound card

I formatted my hard drive and went from 95win to 98win and now I have no sound is there a sight i can download drivers for my sound card MC LD01 94v0 2795 (I think this is the problem with my sound)and i think this is the right # on my sound card to describe what sound card i have however there are other #'s on my board???????? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Re: sound card

The number you've quoted sounds more like an individual chip code, as I've never come across a card with that kind of name. Have you had a look at the board itself? Sometimes the name is printed on the back of the card. Without knowing who made the card and which one it is, it's impossible to find the right drivers.

No Such Thing by John Mayer

CD title: Room for Squares

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005OAIE/qid=1026159807/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/103-9667302-6887025

If you click the link for "No Such Thing"
down where it says "Listen to Samples" you will be able to here it, I think this is the song you're referring to.
