Re: patience

i understand.

Macintosh ?

Is there any software for cdg burning ..on a Mac

Not sure.

Easy CD Creator is called Toast, on the MacOS.
Assuming that the PC version can do it, the Mac version can too. I know that there are CD+G players on the Mac, but I never had any CD's with graphics to play.

CD ripper

Any recommendations for a fast CD Ripper? Prefebly with Mp3 Encoder. I'm using Win2000. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks!

question

how do i convert flp files to wav. or midi. files to use for my geocities web page

direct recording audio problem

I have a celeron 666, 310Mb RAM with a Vibra 128 soundcard. I use Cubase VST32 V5.1.
How can I improve the quality of my direct recordings? Whenever I record something directly (eg. guitar to soundcard via audio cable) it comes out sounding terrible, in spite of the fact that my recording volume is low enough so that the waveform doesn't clip. The quality is especially bad when recording bassguitar - no matter how low the recording volume - it always sounds distorted.

I do not think that this problem has anything to do with my guitar pick-ups -> Fender Strat pick-ups ought to good enough. The bass is also a fender.

Anybody out there with some advice?

Re: direct recording audio problem

The problem is with "impedance matching" the mic input is probably around 600 ohms and the line is probably in the K ohms I believe. Any ways, pickups are in a whole other range, so the power transferred is much worse than optimal. You need some sort of impedance matching transformer at the least. Ideally a pre amp.

Re: Direct recording audio quality problem

You can't plug a guitar or bass into any old line level and get a half decent sound. You need to match the impedence first.

Get yourself an active (or passive if you are on a budget) DI (direct injection) box from a music shop. Plug your guitars in there and you should notice and improvement.

DI'ings instruments is rarely enough. Mic'ing amplifiers is far preferable.

While your in the shop looking at DI's, check out a device called and M-Audio Audiobuddy. If you can afford it (it's not expensive) then you will get two instrument DI's, a couple of Mix Preamps (nice too) and a couple of line levels. You can only use a combination of two at a time but it's a great little box.

Re: how to burn a cd for my car

You need a CD burner and software that will copy a CD. Just ask the software to copy the CD in the source drive and it should do it's thing.

I've been looking for a program to convert .wav to .midi but have been unsuccessful so far. Been looking for a while now. Any advise on an easy was to do this would be great. Thanks

vocal effect

im using cool edit pro 2 and wondering how do i get background vocals to sound phat, smooth and clear wot effects do i use what sort of settings and how do i get it so it blends in beautifully thanks

Behringer Autocomposer Pro works well

i think you just need to experiment.
try out some different plugin modules.
actually, though,... it's not effects which help
vocals so much as proper EQ and maybe compression.
Naturally you should use good mics up close, without too much ambient noise. It's really necessary to have a parametric EQ to really make EQ matter. Also, make the EQ slightly different on each side--makes a wider, clearer, image.

Re: vocal effect

I usually compress backing vocals until they don't jump around in the mix. Eq is important as well. I will often high pass filter then a little to take the bottom end presence out of them which usuallly gives the effect of a little more distance from the front of the mix..

Placing backing vocals back in the mix with a little more reverb than on the main vocal can work.

There are no specific settings to offer you. Sounds vary and so do vocals. A really decent singer will require less work dynamically than a sloppy one. People have different styles. You will have to work them out for yourself..

downloading music onto CD's from the computer

does anyone know of any sites that you can download music from onto your computer then onto CD's? is it even possible? please help because my family is getting stressed and want to know if you can actually record music onto CD's from the net? thanx

Re: downloading music onto CD's from the computer

Hehe... don't let your family get stressed.

Got to sites like NoWhereRadio.com and have a listen. Most people let you legally download your files.

Most if not all burning software will let you burn Audio CD's. You will have to read up on the instructions how to do this as nobody but yourself knows what software you have with your CD burner.

Re: Speed adjustment for playback

You looking for Time Stretching.

Generally an offering of an audio editor but found in more and more programs these days. Acid, Abletons Live, Amazing Slow Downer. Check out the file area on this site. It's pretty massive.

Anastasia Font error

Anastasia Font, after first running, does not register. You have to delete it and reinstall it because it will not recognize the Anastasia font even though it is still there.

Other error causes are not applicable; we have checked. We do not have generic printer selected, and it was not set it draft mode.

Thank you for your assistance with this problem.

Re: Anastasia Font error

Is it a True Type Font (.TTF) ?
What application is it "Not workin" in ?

or and are you talking about a Soundfont ?

software needed

Hi.
I need software that will allow me to automatically record excerpts of all tracks on the disc, and save them as real audio files.

I found a few programs that are close, (ACXtractor and CDcopy) but nothing that does everything that i need.

Any help / hacks would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

: I need information regarding the software needed for video conferencing

Re: software needed

Do it by hand. If you are tying to sell CD's then you don't just want the first 10 or 15 seconds. The listener needs to hear what the song is about if they are going to buy it. The intro is sometimes, but not normally the best place for this. also you don't want to leave the listener hanging too much (chopping off on a chord that needs to go somewhere like a V(five) in a cadence. There is more you should take into consideration depending on the song.

Re: software needed

Thanks, but recording almost 3000 CD's by hand is simply not cost effective.

Obviously, there are programs that do this, as amazon and CDnow and Cd universe and others have sound files for their CD's.

Trouble installing Cakewalk 9.0 on XP

For some reason, I get the error message "an error occurred in the move data process : -113" about 20% throught the installation process. Is this an XP compatibility issue? Is 9.0 even supposed to be compatible with XP in the first place? Any help is appreciated greatly.

Cubase SX - does it support soundfonts?

Does anyone know if cubase sx supports soundfonts? If so, how do I load a soundfont and assigna patch to a midi channel?
Thanks for any help,
Mike

Re: Cubase SX - does it support soundfonts?

Dear Mike,
Please e-mail me if you got any help on your topic.
I have the same problem.
I found a menu point in which I could load sf2 banks and patches, but they wouldn'nt work until I loaded them at the sblive's AudioHQ SoundFont application too.
And still, only the sf2 loaded into the very first bank.
Did you find out more?

converting files

is it possible to convert wav to dss?

Re: converting files

: is it possible to convert wav to dss?

Firstly, install the Olumpus player, which is essential. Now, Open the .dss voice files in olumpus player. After opening, select the file which you want to change the format to. Go to, FILE\SAVEAS and then save the file with the same name or any other name if you want to. Then in the SAVE AS TYPE section choose Wav Files (*.wav).

Now close the Olumpus player and open Sound Recorder, which is in START\PROGRAMS\ACCESSORIES\ENTERTAINMENT\SOUND RECORDER (as per Win98). After you have opened Sound Recorder, Go to FILE\OPEN\FILE.wav, which you have converted to .wav format in Olumpus. Now go to, FILE\SAVE AS\CHANGE, and then in this, drop down the FORMAT tool bar and then select "MP3". Save this "File.mp3" file in a different directory.

Please let me know if you still need any details.

Thanks
