I remember you. How's it doing?

I had a name change from SteveR to Rimmer, it you didn't already know.

Some very weird vibes there. Lots of bedtime spacy grooves. Very disjointed and confusing but interesting and enjoyable all the same. You been consuming the happy **@&^ haven't you?

Hehe, regards...

Stevo: What's up man? You're still the resident guru around here I guess. Yeah that music sounds better if you put a paper bag over your head, cut out some earholes and take some LSD before you listen. That's a weird project I started. I just hit record and start playing. The layers of instruments are made using a phrase sampler so I can get a whole band sound live, with just me playing. Still perfecting the technique but it's a lot of fun. What are you up to musically and what's with the name change?

Rewire recording troubles

Hi peoples!

I've recently started using Rewire (2) with Cubase SX and Reason (1), and i'm loving it! There are two problems i'm having though. First is i need to retrigger the midi channels in Cubase quite often by pressing play twice, otherwise tracks just won't start up (esp. drumtracks). My second problem is probably related to the first. When i bounce the mix to disk, half the channels aren't recorded in the mix-down. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'd be eternally grateful....

Tone generator question - PLEASE HELP !!!

OK, so I finally got the keyboard to make a sound through the PC.......now I've hit my next problem. The voices coming out of the PC speakers aren't the voices selected on the keyboard. I think the soundcard is using it's own voices.....right?? Can I use the keyboards own tone generator to create the sounds rather than the soundcard? How?

Re: Tone generator question - PLEASE HELP !!!

run the line out or headphone out into your sound card.

WANTED USED EQUIPMENT

I am starting a recording studio would like to purchase used equipment know anyone going out of business?
I would like to purchase the Thompson ve3 or ve4 voice eliminator equipment or similar for recording and mixing of karaoke and or other recording.

i need help hookin my stuff up

i need help hookin my equipment to my computer so i can make music , i have 1 vs880 multitrack recorder,1 lexiconmpx 100 channel processor, 1 ef-303 effects box,1 yamaha djx midi keyboard and 1 akai2000xl mpc, and 1 groovebox mc-303 now i need help syncing every thing up to run midi, or if it is easierto try and hook it up to my pc and run every thing there in midi with some program, one question i have is i have a sound card but do i need a midi converter to hook up my midi cables, ihave the manuals for all of these except the groove box. please some help me pleasethanks for your kindness~~~~E.D.E

Re: i need help hookin my stuff up

I could probably help but what is a akai2000xl mpc,and what kind of Pc are u using? If u plan on hooking it all up to ur Pc. No Go! Thats too much equipment for ur computer/software program to proccess (it maybe possible but not a good idea). If u use ur Pc u'll probably just end up using ur keyboard, Roland mixer, and beat machine (optional)...Because the software (Sonar, cubase, Reason etc..)program u use will already have built in effects9which makes the effects box obsolete),and you wont need a channel proccessor w/ a Pc. You will need a midi interface(i.e. converter) to hook eveything to ur Pc. Another option is hookin up ur equip. w/o a Pc then converting the data to ur Pc when ur all done recording it. I'm not sure how thats done. I imagine u can use ur Vs880 to convert the data somehow. but it all depends on how u want to hook it up.Using ur pc or not.

~~:AN AKAI MPC 2000XL IS A MIDI WORKSTATION, IT HAS A SAMPLER A 4 BANK 16 PAD DRUM MAC. IT CAN CONTROLTWO MIDI DEVICES, IT WOULD PROBABLY B EASIER TO HOOK EVERY THING UP AND RUN IT INTO THE COMPUTER LATER FOR MASTERING HUh!the thing is that i can't figure that out yet, i figure that i could use the equipment to make my rythms and music and some how make things easier to record every while its being squenced and arranged by the computer, just to make it easier for someone that has no musical knowlege, but yes if you can help me to hook my stuff where it is all synced together through midi i would really appreciate it.. thank you very much jeremy ......p.s. do you suggest to use these other programs,i have acid pro 3 that i use rite now ..thanks .ede.

Korg Triton or Yamaha Motif?

I have a question. Which is better? A Yamaha Motif 8 or a Korg Triton? Which has better sound qaulity? Which can do more? If you have an answer,, e-mail me or post to this message.

Re: Korg Triton or Yamaha Motif?

Well, I sprung for the MOTIF6, and this is the most obfuscated, confusing, undocumented, and frustrating interface I've ever seen. RUBBISH INDEED!!!! I've already lost some sequences because I didn't even DREAM that they would be contained in VOLATILE RAM!! What a crock!! Why not just make us use 740k floppies from which to load the OS and everything else?! Since they appear to want to frustrate the crap out of us, that would have been a great touch! This machine defines exactly how poorly an interface can be designed. The Korg's interface could not POSSIBLY be worse. The "documentation" is useless, and I've had to resort to MOTIFATOR.com for help in understanding even the most basic terms used. The "documentation" doesn't even include a glossary!!! Yet they bandy about such terms as "section", "part", "style", and "phrase" without so much as an overview of their relationship to each other (apparently, they think they've covered that by providing heirarchical menu diagrams - WRONG!). I can only hope that once I've understood their paradigms (if I ever do), that I can get past the idiot-syncrasies of the beast.

Re: Korg Triton or Yamaha Motif?

I think both sounds amazing but the fact that the Triton has been around for some time will meant editing your patches for something original will be more of an issue. Most people seem to use factory patches and therefore you hear the same sounds more and more.

The Yamaha looks and sounds nice. I have an Ex5r and am still finding new noises from it after 2-3 years. The operating system is rubbish though. I would check out peoples opinions on the ease of use as much as the sounds.

Re: Korg Triton or Yamaha Motif?

I'm going through the same process, myself. I am intrigued by the sampling sequencer of the MOIF and by the sampling add on to the Triton LE. It apears that the sampler component of the Triton is more like a dedicated sampler, and I'm thinking that for the minimal sampling I want to do, the MOTIF is the choice. I would be very interested to hear more about why Izzy thinks the OS on the MOTIF is rubbish. I'm guessing that the LCD interface presents some navigation challenges? Do you think these are things that will only be awkward while getting used to it?

Re: Korg Triton or Yamaha Motif?

Dan,

It was me that said the OS on my Yamaha Ex5r is rubbish.

I therefore assume that caution is required with Yamaha Os's after the appalling state of affairs with the Ex5. I had to open the machine 3 times to change 2-3 EPROM chips myself as they contained the Os and it was the only way to update. Yamaha dropped out of updating it before it was finished and started ignoring my letters of complaint.

Buggy, slow as treacle with SCSI, poor design overall. I still have the machine as I love the facilities and the sounds. I could almost recommend it as it's an amazing machine but the customer service from Yamaha was less than acceptable under the circumstances.

I'm not trying to put you off the new machines though. Just a word of caution.

Re: Korg Triton or Yamaha Motif?

Hey, great info! I appreciate that. Anyone else following this thread that has experience with Korg machines?

Software to change key of songs

Hi: I have performance tracks on CD's but most of the time there in the wrong key for me. Is there anything I can do if I record the CD into a wave file to change the key of the song. IE from the key of C to the key of D or lower etc. Is there any software programs I can purchase to do this with? Right now the only way to change keys is to buy a karaoke machine it seems, except I really don't want to buy the machine just to convert some songs..Please help..Thanks for your reply..

Magix Music Studio 7 - track help?

I've checked all the obvious places, but am still having a bit of trouble with this software at a fairly fundamental level.
Having recorded Track1 with no problems, any subsequent track I try to record with playback present results in an exact copy of the first track being recorded into the new track as well as whatever else is being played. It's like the playback is being piped directly into the record area.
I've looked and can't see anything obvious that I'm doing wrong, although it probably is dead simple and I'm being a plank.....
Any help gratefully received.

sheet music to cd

Does anyone know of a software that I can enter music notes from sheet music, select insturments to play the music, and then save the tunes to CD?

Re: sheet music to cd

Sonar 2.0 can .It'll transpose, you can select different patches(i.e intruments to play the sheet music. If you have a midi keyboard you can simply play the sheet music while Sonar records it and then u can edit it afterwards. If u dont have a midi keyboard you can manually enter the sheet music into sonar then edit it afterward. Then record it to cd.
