By Geoff Nicholson When it comes to WAV to MIDI conversion, there is a bit of debate on the issue. ...Continued Try Intelliscore for WAV to MIDI conversion Some argue that the process doesn't work properly, especially when it comes to a polyphonic source. But IntelliScore promises to get the job done. As they say on the Intelliscore website: "IntelliScore is a WAV to MIDI converter for live performance, making MIDI files, transcribing music, and finding chord names from polyphonic wave and MP3 files." So what does this mean? Firstly, Intelliscore claims to analyse polyphonic (more than one instrument at a time eg. a band) WAV and MP3 files, coming up with notes, chord names, and the key for you. If the file is monophonic (one instrument, such as a guitar) the software should be able to recreate effects such as pitch bend, vibrato, tremolo, and portamento. Secondly, you can use the software as a real-time midi controller. Or you can record directly into a sequencer. Bitchin'!
Version 4 is claimed to be the 'most significant advancement to intelliScore', containing the following enhancements. * Live performance mode - Control a MIDI-enabled instrument or your computer's sound card in real-time while you play an analog instrument. No need for a hardware MIDI pickup. If you're a musician who needs to figure out the notes in music this is definitely a program worth checking out. But as stated on the Intelliscore site: "no music recognition program is perfect." So don't expect miracles. The software comes in two flavours - polyphonic and the standard edition (monophonic). You will need a Pentium II class processor, at least 20 MB of RAM, a Windows-compatible sound card and speakers. For more details: www.intelliscore.net
